Trimble Writing Exercise #5
This writing exercise has three parts. To complete these exercises, please also consult the notes I provided on stylistic
punctuation. Use this form to complete all three parts and then submit it to me using the drop box at the bottom of the
Week 5 page. This week’s exercise asks you to quote passages from your Summary/Response essay.
Part 1: On page 70, Trimble’s eighth tip for improving the readability of your writing is to minimize your
adjectives. Use this space to quote a paragraph (at least 5 sentences) from your own Summary/Response
that contains no adjectives or adverbs.
Part 2: Review Trimble’s section on Vigorous Verbs (page 50-3) and quote 5 sentences from your essay
(they do not all have to be in a row or from the same paragraph, just five sentences) that each contains an
active verb. Highlight these verbs in bold:
