how can I get my school to change what
learning looks and feels like?

You don’t have to look like everyone else
Be unique
Be yourself
Be distinctive
Be true to your mission and vision
Technology is the tool
Learning is the goal
So, you want a more
technology rich school…
What can YOU do?
1. Share your vision of a technology rich school
and why it is critical for learning today.
2. Engage teachers, staff, students,
administrators, families, Board members and
other stakeholders in conversations about this
vision.
3. Listen to their ideas, concerns, needs, and
visions
4. Build a shared vision of learning.
* ** Does this newly
articulated shared vision match
your written school mission and vision?
If not, revise!
Once you have engaged all school personnel in
your conversation and there is shared
understanding of what is desired:
1. Have each person, including you, set a personal
goal (growth plan) related to the vision.
2. Communicate your growth plan to the group.
3. Help people with similar growth plans form
learning communities.
4. Support the growth plans.
5. Hold people accountable for their growth plans
(including yourself).
** It’s okay to start small, but START you must!
How can you support the growth plans?
1. Model what you advocate
2. Provide access to technology, a robust
infrastructure, plenty of bandwidth
3. Provide opportunity to learn
4. Provide technology teams to support learning
(students, other teachers, a mixture of both,
online tools) 
5. Provide time to experiment and reflect
6. Celebrate attempts
7. Celebrate successes
8. Publicize what is being done
9. Hold everyone accountable for seeking to
achieve their growth plan

10. Create a culture of continuous learning
11. Change policies that get in the way
12. Design professional development and
rewards to look and feel like the classrooms
(learning environments) you want
[i.e. badges for professional development]
13. Be a coach, model what you want to see in
classrooms

14. Provide experimentation time and reflection
time
15. Celebrate attempts
16. Celebrate successes
17. Publicize what is being done
18. Hold everyone accountable for seeking to
achieve their growth plan

19. Address equity at school and home
20. Provide cloud based services
21. Teach project management skills
22. Make sure purchases fit into the vision you
are aiming for
Yes, there is a LOT you can do!
