Description of Business Environment:
This requisition offers a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer an exciting
opportunity to join the world’s largest defence company. Lockheed Martin is an

military systems and weaponry, we are also the largest supplier of IT systems to the US

In 1999, after many years working successfully in the UK as a US company, Lockheed
Martin UK was formed with the aspiration of increasing our UK footprint and raising our
UK profile. Since then, we have supplied operating systems to the Royal Mail, the
Metropolitan Police, UK Air Traffic, the 2001and 2011 Census and to AWE, as well as
maintaining a strong position in our primary, military market place.
Since 2005 our headcount has doubled and Lockheed Martin Ampthill has become
known as a leading UK defence engineering company, delivering on a broad range of
contracts for the MoD, prime contractors across the wider UK market and international
defence ministries. Our core business focuses on systems design, platform integration,
manufacture, update and support of armoured fighting vehicles, C4ISTAR platforms,
weaponry technology and systems research in areas such as ballistic missile defence
and composite fabrication.
Specific Job Description:
Lockheed Martin Ampthill requires Systems Engineers with strong requirements
development experience to join the team working across the programme portfolio. The
successful candidate will have strong front end requirements development and
management experience on various sizes of programmes. They will have demonstrable
experience in the decomposition, development and writing of subsystem specifications
and interface control documents using DOORS 9.x or DOORS NG or other such tools.
They will have experience of working in programmes using different development
lifecycles including waterfall, iterative and agile. An important part of the candidates’
experience will be to demonstrate the development of solution architectures, using
MODAF principals to analysis operational scenarios, system behaviour/states and
modes, and how this behaviour is then translated into functional and non-functional
requirements. This may have been gained by the development and use of graphical
modelling notations such as UML/SysML and tools such as Sparx EA and IBM
Rhapsody.
Required Skills:
 Use of IBM toolsets such as DOORS, Rhapsody, Quality Manager, Team Concert
 Experience in one of the following areas; Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Air C2,
Battlespace Management Systems, Ground Based Air Defence systems
 Generation and management of engineering Work Packages
 Generation of standard Systems and Software Engineering artefacts; e.g. SSRD,
SRS, ICD
 Systems Engineering cost estimation and inputs into Basis of Estimates for proposal
generation
 Experience of Safety Critical SW development would be advantageous
Standard Job Description:
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and
risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are
performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication,
test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and
systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions
that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional
analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface
definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software
specifications.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
Ideally require a Bachelors degree from an accredited college and capability typically
achieved through proven professional experience. Will also consider individuals with
equivalent experience / combined education.
