ACTIVITY: 6204G GROUP DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY ________________________________________________________________________ Submitted by John Schut Outcome: Students will understand the process of group development. Time: One to more class periods, dependent on length of movie Materials: The Dirty Dozen or Hoosiers movie, video player Setting: Classroom Learning Activity: Students will watch either movie with a discussion on group development beforehand. Group development is in four stages: 1) forming of a group, 2) setting of group norms and expectations, 3) trust and team building, and 4) performance of the group at different tasks. After the movie, students will discuss how these stages apply to the movie and to other groups. Assessment: A short essay on group development that relates to the student’s life. Key Points: 1. Groups go through different stages in development. 2. Groups have a purpose, or mission, to achieve. 3. Members are rewarded through group participation.
