We will be starting with the Native Americans and move to the colonies, the revolution, slavery, and expansion across the nation, moving through the civil war. We do quite a few projects and activities to get a feel for the time period and the events we are learning about. The social studies expectation is that students keep their social studies work in their ELA notebooks, as we combine the two subjects so closely. Students will not have any homework in this subject, but they will be taking two tests a unit Parent resources • • • • Miss Young’s class website: http://5thgrademissyoung.weebly.com/ Mrs. Branch class site http://www.mpsaz.org/sirrine/staff/mlbranch/ Math resources: www.mpsaz.org/ssrc/math/math_el/links How parents can help: www.mpsaz.org/bskills/elementary/ela_parent_resources/ • Homework help: www.doyourhomeworkarizona.org/ Classroom expectations • The 5th graders will have homework every night except Friday’s • Students will come home every night with their agendas filled out with that night’s homework • Our classroom economy is up to the students • During switches, students will be prepared and bring their materials necessary
