There are some changes this year…
We believe that fifth grade students are at an age where they should learn how to take responsibility for their own learning and behavior. We believe the best way to help them do so is by departmentalizing. Students will have a homeroom and regular specials, then for the remainder of the day they will move to a different teacher for Math, ELA, and Science/Social
Studies. We are excited about this change and believe it will allow students to prepare for Junior
High and allow teachers to specialize in certain academic areas to bring even better instruction to the students
.

Mathematics
This will be my first year teaching at Guerrero Elementary and I could not be more excited! I just moved here from New Jersey where I graduated from Rowan University with degrees in Elementary Education and
Mathematics. I enjoy cooking, reading, being outside, and spending time with family and friends. In 5th grade, we focus on place value, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, decimals and fractions. I am extremely passionate about math and am looking forward to teaching your student all of its wonders! Please feel free to contact me at any time: jmdelgado@mpsaz.org

Here at Guerrero we take pride in our students and expect them to model appropriate behavior around the school. We ask that our students be respectful, be safe, be ready, be responsible and do their best in class. To help monitor, remind, and reinforce appropriate behavior we will be using
ClassDojo. ClassDojo lets the teachers offer instant feedback for positive and negative behaviors. Here are a few examples of the positive and negative consequences for behavior.
**Weekly progress report printed out from Dojo on Friday, signed by the parents, and
Positive points: every day your student earns an 80% or above, they will receive a grabber/Gecko that they can use for PBIS assemblies .
A weekly raffle will be held by each homeroom teacher. This raffle will be done by using the random button in ClassDojo. o o o
There are up to 5 winners per week depending on the class size.
All students are entered into the raffle and if selected they need to have a weekly average of 80% or above to choose a prize/reward.
Examples of Prizes/Rewards:
Sit in the teacher’s chair
Have lunch with teacher
Pick from the prize box
Free time on the computer
Fun Friday: students who get 80% or more on their Class Dojo and turn in completed homework packet on Friday will be able to participate in Fun Friday. Fun Friday is at lunchtime on Friday. There will be three rooms: a detention room, game room, and movie room.
Negative points : each negative point is a separate consequence
1 - Warning
2 - Student calls home and/or writes note in agenda

4 - Loss of recess and lunch detention
5 - After school detention
6 - Immediate office referral
