Welcome to 6 Grade
Meet Your Child’s Teachers:
Mrs. Yang
Mathematics and Science
My husband and I along with our dog Rodgers, just moved here from
Illinois. Making this my first year here at Guerrero but will be my 7th
year teaching. I taught math in Illinois for the previous six years. I enjoy
being active (playing soccer, going for hikes, swimming), traveling, and
cooking. In sixth grade, we focus on place value, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and
dividing whole numbers, decimals and fractions. In science we use the scientific
method to help us in our discovery of plant and animal cells, energy oceanography and
weather and the ecosystem. I am looking forward to making this a great year! Please
feel free to contact me any time; email: ecyang@mpsaz.org or call: (480) 472 – 9208.
Email is the best way to get ahold of me and I will get back to you as soon as possible,
but it may take me up to 24 hours to respond.
Mrs. Lewis
English Language Arts and Social Studies
This will be my first year teaching at Guerrero Elementary and I could
not be more excited! I have lived in Arizona for the last 13 years and I
live less than a quarter mile from Guerrero. I have a 10 year old
daughter that will be attending 5th grade here at Guerrero Elementary
School this year. I enjoy crocheting, reading, learning, and spending time with family
and friends. In 6th grade English Language Arts, we will be learning reading
comprehension, writing, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. In Social Studies, we will
be learning about history, geography, and government. I am extremely passionate
about education and I am looking forward to teaching your student this year!!! Please
feel free to contact me any time via email at: jllewis@mpsaz.org. Or you can call our
classroom phone number at: 480-472-9181. Email is the best way to get ahold of me
and I will get back to you as soon as possible, but it may take me up to 24 hours to
respond.
6th Grade Behavior
Here at Guerrero we take pride in our students and expect them to model appropriate
behavior around the school. 6th graders have a very important role, because they are
role models for the younger grades and show what appropriate behavior looks like all
throughout the school. We ask that our students be respectful, be safe, be ready, be
responsible and do their best in class.
To help monitor, remind, and reinforce appropriate behavior we will be using
ClassDojo. ClassDojo lets the teachers offer instant feedback for behaviors that we
want to see continue and for behaviors that have room to improve.
Students can earn and lose points for actions such as coming to class prepared,
hallway behavior, showing respect, helping others etc. We encourage all students to
strive for 100% in ClassDojo and want to recognize those who are consistently
modeling appropriate behaviors.
Student Recognition
Daily: students can earn Guerrero Geckos daily for going above and beyond school
expectations. The Geckos can be used at PBIS assemblies.
Weekly: a raffle will be held weekly and all students are entered into the raffle. In
order to earn a prize, your name needs to be called and you must have a weekly
average of 80% or higher in ClassDojo
Examples of prizes include:
Pick from the prize box
Use the teacher’s chair for a day
Be the teacher for a class period
