Stagecraft Course Syllabus 2014/2015 Instructor: Jamie Oettle Room J33 Availability: 8:30am to 9:30am and by appointment *Syllabus subject to change Course description: Fundamentals of Scenic Design. Students will develop skills for large-scale art projects. This class emphasizes strong work in perspective, scene painting, construction, and working with unique materials such as foams, wires, paper mache, and cloth for set and prop fabrication. Skill in craftsmanship of building and decorating will be strengthened. Course goals: Students will work cooperatively and individually on completing large scale and miniature design and construction projects. Students will use power tools as well as hand tools in a safe and effective manner. Students will use stage terminology correctly in identifying different parts of the theatre for assessment and for hands-on work. Students will read scripts and analyze them in terms of set requirements to gain a stronger working knowledge of the production process. Students will show their knowledge and understanding through a variety of quizzes, tests, hands-on work, projects, and class discussions. Grading and Requirements: Each assignment carries a point value associated with the final grade. Grading scale follows Goddard High School grading standards. Assignment weights will be roughly figured as follows but may be modified to better meet the instructor’s and students’ needs.
