MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: FACULTY TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Instructional Computing Coordinator, work independently, as well as in a team, to coordinate and provide training for faculty on various software applications, web applications, and computer operating systems; develop and deliver web-based tutorials for faculty, staff, and student use in developing information technology skills; publicize the availability of these materials and assist faculty, staff, and students in using them to provide selfpaced training in Information Technology; evaluate an document training plans and workshops; serve as a college liaison for training and technology resources. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Conduct needs assessments to determine need for information training and preferred learning modalities of faculty, staff and students and regularly redesign training programs to meet needs and objectives. 2. Research, evaluate, and recommend for purchase various commercially produced computerbased training modules and web applications for use in training. Proactively plan use of information technology as an instructional tool campus-wide. 3. Provide information on available learning resources; encourage participation in both group and individual learning programs. Organize, prepare, distribute, and otherwise publicize schedules of available training. 4. Develop training modules in various modalities for faculty, staff, and students on various software applications, web applications, and computer operating systems. 5. Deliver instruction to small and large groups of faculty, staff, and students in class labs or workstations. Ensure that various learning environments are maintained in appropriate condition, including working condition of hardware and software and accounting for the physical and emotional needs of learners as they relate to achievement of objectives. 6. Conduct evaluations of workshops, classes and training modules to assess effectiveness of delivery and content of instructional materials. Maintain records and prepare related reports. 7. Perform computer system administrative services for server-based instructional technologies in support of district operations (such as Course Management Systems, WebCMS, SURF/PeopleSoft, etc). Provide assistance to faculty, staff and students in the use of computer-assisted and –managed instructional technology. 8. In coordination with AIS technical staff, assist with troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software problems as necessary. Maintain, support, and document procedures and hardware/software configurations for Faculty Instructional Development Lab. Recommend and design software configurations appropriate for specific learning environments. 9. Serve as college liaison for state-wide professional development and training initiatives (such as @One Project, CVC – California Virtual Campus, Ed.net etc). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree and two years of direct experience providing training in small and/or large group settings to adults.
