Örebro-Stanford Cross-Cultural Rhetoric Workshop January 29, 2008 Activity: Students will discuss appearance and gender from a cross-cultural and rhetorical point of view and also learn about how to use ICT for global communication. Small Group introductions: Cultural Artifact Analysis Time: 18.20-18.35 / 9:20-9:35 15 minutes Location: CCR Group Rooms (http://switchboard.stanford.edu) Activity: Share a cultural artifact which represents you. III. Small Group Rhetorical Analysis of Gender Time: 18.35-19:10 / 9:35-10:10 35 minutes Activity: Analysis and Discussion of video clips (You may listen on separate sides and then join back together.) Clips: Clips can be accessed through opening an internet browser in a separate window and visiting http://ccr.stanford.edu/workshops/012908.htm “Beautiful Girl with a Beard” “Shower” “Dove – Evolution” Questions: 1. How do the arguments in the video clips correspond to your own cultures & everyday life? 2. Compare and contrast the roles of men and women in your different cultures. (What should a woman/man do, look like, say...? What should they not do, look like, say…?) IV. Collaborative Activity Time: 19.05-19.15 / 10:05-10:15 10 minutes Activity: Work together to create a two-minute presentation about the discussion from your small group. (Note: During the presentation, speakers will be cut off at two minutes) V.
