Announcements

The complete budget was submitted for the Teacher Residency Project, Friday, February 7, 2014 with the follow-up budget narrative submitted on Monday, February 10, 2014. The Donor group should have their decision today or tomorrow whether final approval will be granted. The degree program will be administered through FSE via the C & I master’s degree. The project will move quickly with coursework developed just ahead of the time the courses will be offered; existing course numbers will be used for much of the coursework; recruitment of the first cohort needs to begin now for the program to begin in

Summer 2014. The UNF portion is anticipated to be at $1,500,000. Christine White is the district coordinator. If UNF budget is approved, a part-time recruiter will work with Dr. Lastrapes, who will serve as the UNF coordinator. This project will be a collaborative effort with all parties working together to recruit students to Jacksonville and UNF.

The written offer was prepared to go to Luciana Carvalhal Braga for the P.E. position. Luciana will be coming to UNF from West Virginia where she is completing her doctorate.

The CELT chair search committee will hold telephone interviews over the next two weeks. Telephone interviews for the Dean position are complete. The search committee will invite three candidates to campus in the near future.

After a national search, the University of North Florida has hired Joshua Merchant as the new Vice

President for Development and Alumni Affairs and Executive Director of the UNF Foundation. He begins his new position Monday, April 7.

The search for the Coordinator of Assessment and Accreditation is posted, and Dr. Kane is chair of the committee. Dr. Daniel will send out a copy of the job announcement if anyone would like to share with interested parties.

Spring 2014 Scholar Convocation – Please submit your scholar names and award titles to the Dean’s

Office March 1 through March 15.

Thank you department chairs for the additional course listings – two additional courses have been added to the summer schedule.

Strengthening Teacher Effectiveness to Work with Military Connected Students – There will be a second set of workshops on February 28 which will be for current internship students only as part of their professional development.

John Kemppainen shared his discussions with Dr. Eve Aird from Sacred Heart Junior College in Belize. One of the topics of discussion would have a cohort of undergraduate students come to UNF to declare their major in one of the arts and science areas and use the COEHS for a minor in education to become prepared to be secondary teachers in Belize.

January 31 was the deadline for intern applications for fall. Dr. O’Farrell shared that they have 122 applications. The breakdown of students by program was sent to department chairs for consideration in assigning supervisors for the fall.

The second phase is continuing with Project Breakthrough in collaboration with OneJax. The second session is Friday, February 14, to process the Walks of Understanding. This is a special project with

OneJax and the interns assigned to the urban professional development schools.

Projected Budget and Visiting Faculty (LD)

The CLT discussed staffing needs and prioritization of department program instruction. Consistency is needed for the long range health of COEHS programs. Dr. Daniel will bring the short term plan/long term plan to Academic Affairs and/or invite Dr. Coleman to a future CLT meeting.

Academic Learning Compacts (LD)

The ALC’s are due to Judy Miller, March 3, 2014. Dr. Daniel shared a copy of last year’s ratings and an FYI to work with particular diligence on any areas that were coded yellow, purple, or red. Dr. Daniel discussed the importance of getting the ALC ratings up, and quality time will need to be spent on ALC’s this year.

The importance of doing the ALC’s well this year is high priority. The ALC ratings will be looked by

Academic Affairs when the next set of budget requests go out. Programs must have satisfactory or higher

ALC’s in order to receive resources from Academic Affairs. Judy Miller is always available for refresher workshops.

One Spark/Ed Spark Festival (LD)

The Shultz Center is working with One Spark as an Ed Spark venue. If you have an .EDU email address you do not have to pay to be a creator. UNF may take a more active role in being a supporter of this next year.

Enrollment for 2013-2014 (LD)

The CLT discussed COEHS programs/enrollments for 2013 – 2014.

Dana Kriznar, Duval County School District, is working on a project with COEHS. Dana is looking at how people were certified to teach and from which college, university, or other certification program. Dana will be seeking data to analyze teacher success metrics including the value added scores.
