Appendix Table 1. List of m/z values used for internal calibration. These compounds were
chosen because they occur in all DOM mass spectra that have been analyzed by this lab. We are
confident about the elemental formula assignments due to the lack of reasonable alternatives (the
other series that would work has N4O4 instead of O8) and the consistent error of observed m/z
values within the experimental spectra (for example, the error in mass accuracy of the observed
values were approximately 2 ppm + 0.2 ppm).
