FACTS ABOUT 4-H CAMP
Applications for 4-H Camp ’13 are enclosed. We hope that you will consider joining us at Lutheran Outdoor
Ministry Camp (LOMC) in Oregon, Illinois this year! We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
4-H Camp is welcoming our entire Unit to join us in the fun at 4-H Camp. These three counties include Carroll,
Lee, and Whiteside. While we have always invited these counties to 4-H Camp, we will be more closely
involving them in our well-known, fantastic camp program! Of course we still welcome youth from any county or
state!
4-H Camp is a camp where boys and girls, ages 8-14, come to LOMC to live and play for five days and four
nights! Campers are assigned to cabins where they live with other campers their own age and gender. Each
cabin houses up to 8 campers. Each cabin is supervised by extensively trained and screened high school and
college age 4-H counselors—many of whom are past campers and 4-H members. Additionally, University of
Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development Staff from the sponsoring counties and the LOMC staff oversee
campers the entire time they are present. During camp week, campers are assigned to a camp family
consisting of campers of all ages. At times throughout the week, these families compete against each other in
fun competitions and activities. At 4-H Camp, campers are encouraged to try new things, make decisions,
grow personally, and make new friends!
ACTIVITIES
Each day is divided up into early bird (early morning) activities, two or three open choice
activity periods, and evening camp-wide activities which are planned and conducted by
4-H Youth Development Staff and Counselors. Early bird activities are held for campers

eat breakfast. Typical daily open choice activities include:

camp at all times. Campers choose their activities, but their whereabouts are known and checked at all times.
If there is any illness, accident, or problem, the family is contacted immediately. Except in emergency
situations, campers and counselors are not allowed to make or receive phone calls. 4-H Youth Development
Staff extensively train camp counselors on how to prevent and address risky situations.
HOW DO I COMMUNICATE WITH MY CAMPER?
