FL121-002 & FL121-003
These courses will give you insights into Arabic language and culture.
In Elementary Arabic FL121-002 (TR 2.00 pm – 3.15 pm) , you will be introduced to the alphabet of Arabic, its special phonetic and orthographic systems - which are different from counterpart systems in other languages - and the different dialects of Arabic spoken in the Arab world.
Film viewing, music, authentic texts and audiovisual materials will be used, according to students’ level, to facilitate learning and maximize interaction. Developing basic oral and written skills in
Arabic will be main focus of this course.
Prior knowledge of the Arabic language is not required.
In Intermediate Arabic FL121-003 (TR 12.30 pm – 1.45 pm) , readings, lectures, film viewing and discussion about various current issues such as the status of women in Middle Eastern societies, family in Arab counties, customs, traditions, Muslim countries and Islam,………etc in addition to reinforcing any knowledge of Arabic previously learnt from FL121-002. Further improvement of oral and written skills and elaboration on cross cultural awareness for better understanding and effective communication will be the main objectives of this course.
A semester of FL121-002 is recommended but not mandatory.
These courses are taught respectively by Mohamed and Reham. Both are Fulbright scholars and native speakers of Arabic from Morocco and Egypt.
