Agenda Meet and Greet New Members Outline Goals of ESC – What does ESC do? o Solicit Projects o New Live Website Pending Projects o Rainwater Collection o Chinese Tallow o Bobcat Blend Start of Meeting –5:24 PM Budget - Nancy o Geography Department never purchased the GreenPrint software $5605.00 o Rainwater collection project (Approved 2008) – not yet completed – has spent $5909.00 thus far o Bio-diesel - $4856.00 – (Approved 2007) o Bobcat Blend (Approved 2009) – Spent $4152.00 for Trailer and Bins, $22,829.00 remaining in their budget o Bobcat Build & Earth Day? o How much money is left in the budget? Nancy will find out what funds remain Update on Rainwater Collection Project - Nathan o Needs about eight more hours of work – will be done on weekends o Needs the Gutters, the flush valve, a trellis, and a ball valve o Also needs water meter to measure the number of gallons of water used o Saturday morning workdays Coke Contract – Dr. Cade o Review top 10 Green Universities – build criteria to review o Coke Contract All the cokes come in cardboard flats (used to be reusable plastic crates) – increasing waste It’s costing Texas State money to haul off the waste The plastic bottles are take up a lot of room and don’t bring in any money for the university when they’re recycled – aluminum does We should request that John Root come to a meeting and learn about how coke does business The Coke Foundation for Recycling offers grant money for sustainable/recycling projects o No limit on the amount of money you can apply for o April 15th deadline When does the contract renew? It was just revised in 2007 University Committee on Sustainability – Nancy o “Sustainability” is a buzzword good for recruiting and bringing in donation money from alum and sponsors o The University is creating a steering committee on Sustainability with a plan for making Texas State “Greener” and provide oversight for projects/programs all over campus Emergency Use Policies Seeking LEED Certification Temperature controls Recycling Vehicles Energy performance o The committee will be made up of many different faculty from all over campus – IT, Risk Management, etc o The committee will recommend policies to put in place for future development o Incorporate issues into the curriculum – ex. Geography o It still needs to be organized – there are many organizations/departments on their way to “green” – but there’s currently no cohesive order o “Facilities & Environmental Committee” o What does ESC need to do to support its creation? VOTE: Unanimously in support of the creation of the University Committee on Sustainability Hayat – o Concerns about the river and the rice conservation o University needs to recognize the importance of keeping someone on payroll to maintain the stand at Sewell – maybe from the Outdoor Center of another department o It’s not legal to transport invasive species without a permit o Possibly extend the Aquarena Clean-Up program to include Sewell Park Talk to Ron Coley and/or Diane Woznik Nancy o Environmental Health and Risk Management Contract with PSC Hold an electronic waste recycling event for earth day April 18th of 25th 9:00am to 3:00pm Two universities have already participated We would need volunteers (about 45) And 10 sponsors to donate $1000.00 each ESC needs more info before we can vote on anything, but it’s a good idea www.pscnow.com – company’s website Motion to adjourn Hayat, 2nd Dr. Cade – 7:00pm
