3. Name and brief description (1 – 2 paragraphs) of the Project requiring an
Intern(s):
 Summer Organizational Skills Treatment Component for the NYU Summer
Program for Kids: In 2011 and early 2012, the findings from an innovative
clinical research study that tested methods for building Organization, Time
Management, and Planning Skills for children with Attention
Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders indicated that collaborators at the NYU Child
Study Center had found a significantly effective way to improve the home and
school functioning of children with this condition. The program used
behavior modification strategies and practical instruction to build
manageable routines for children with ADHD to track school assignments,
manage school materials, improve their time management, and enhance
planning abilities. Highly positive effects were found to enhance children’s
school productivity, school performance, home and school organization, and
reduce the level of family conflict that had been encountered because the
children were losing their materials, forgetting about school assignments,
and completing tasks poorly or past time limits.
The Summer Program for Kids (NYU-SPK) is a 7-week intensive day camp
treatment for children with ADHD that has been shown to enhance social
adjustment and level of cooperation of children that have often had major
problems in summer camp situations. This year, we are adding an
Organizational Skills Treatment Component to several segments of the NYUSPK. We wish to train children to use methods in the Academic Learning
Center, a daily classroom environment, in the Art Classes, in the Sports
Program and at the arrival and departure times to overcome inattention to
their personal items and ineffectiveness in managing classroom assignments
and materials. For this pilot test implementation, we require dedicated
undergraduates to assist the professional psychology staff in
implementation, data collection, and qualitative analysis of the project’s
impact.

4. Location and hours of Internship (building name, expected availability if
known):
 Fieldwork location:
Child Study Center, Summer Program for Kids,

6. Brief summary of proposed Intern responsibilities:
 Two interns will assist Drs. Gallagher, Fleiss, and Diaz in modifying the
instructional materials for the children, their parents, and camp staff for
implementing brief daily lessons on Organization, Time Management, and
Planning for the targeted situations: Academic and Art Classes; packing up
after sports activities; getting ready to leave for camp and getting ready to
return home. Interns will also assist in observing the implementation of
these lessons, document the impact of the lessons on children’s functioning,
and assist in gathering pre- and post-data from parents, teachers, and
counselors. Finally, interns will help in data management for the program.
Interns will have nearly daily opportunities to observe the over 50 children
enrolled in camp and will have some direct interactions with children as part
of the program evaluation process.
7. Weekly or monthly meetings at which Intern attendance is expected:
 There will be a weekly OTMP implementation meeting of the camp staff and
CSC consultants that interns will attend.
8. Three goals that the Intern(s) will be expected to achieve during placement:

translated to another treatment setting.
2) Gather comprehensive treatment information for the children that are
enrolled in the OST Component of the NYU-SPK.
3) Enter all data gathered and provide qualitative descriptions of children’s
reactions to the OST Components as they are applied in the Academic
Learning Center, Art Classes, in sports programs, and in arrival and pack-up
times.
9. Description of planned deliverable(s) at the end of the 12-week Project:
 Interns will provide a comprehensive description of sample children’s
