Hymn: He who would valiant be
He who would valiant be
‘Gainst all disaster
Let him in constancy
Follow the Master
There’s no discouragement
Shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim.
2.
Who so beset him round
With dismal stories
Do, but themselves confound
His strength the more is
No foes shall stay his might
Though he with giants fight;
He will make good his right
To be a pilgrim
3.
Since, Lord thou dost defend
Us with thy Spirit
We know we at the end
Shall life inherit,
Then fancies flee away!
I’ll fear not what men say,
I’ll labour night and day
To be a pilgrim
Greeting
Collect Prayer
Scripture Reading : Psalm 84
Hymn: Jesus shall reign
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
Does his successive journeys run
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore
Till moons shall wax and wane no more
2.
People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on his love with sweetest song,
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name
3.
Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honours to our King;
Angels descend with songs again
And earth repeat the long amen
Gospel Reading: John 12:20-27, Apostolic Confession of Faith
SERMON
Pilgrims Prayer
The Lords Prayer
Closing Hymn: Hills of the North
Hills of the North, rejoice;
River and mountain-spring
Hark to the advent voice;
Valley and lowland, sing;
Though absent long, your Lord is nigh;
He judgement brings and victory.
2.
Shores of the utmost West;
Ye that have waited long,
Unvisited, unblest,
Break forth to swelling song;
High raise the note, that Jesus died,
Yet lives and reigns, the Crucified.
3.
Shout, while ye journey home;
Songs be in every mouth;
Lo from the North we come,
From East and West, and South,
City of God, the bond are free
We come to live and reign in thee!
