Japanese Culture Explored
On April 18 the Leaf River Soaring Eagles had a special speaker, Mrs. Dawn Hill, talk to us
about Japan. She told us about differences between Japanese Culture and American Culture. One
difference is the Americans have a lot more space. The Japanese are tightly packed on their
island. Mrs. Hill taught us how to do kanji, which is the Japanese writing style. Kelly Stranberg
talked about the Japanese pop-culture. Becca Steingraber showed her anime artwork, and Sarah
Elliott made rice balls to share. The pictures of Japan were beautiful. It was a lot of fun painting
the kanji and for some of us, painting each other.
4-H Club is a great way to learn about different cultures and meet speakers who have traveled to
these places. The Leaf River Soaring Eagles meet on the second Monday of each month at the
River Valley Complex in Leaf River at 6:30. Come check us out and have some fun! For more
information on 4-H and to find a group near you, call the Ogle
County Extension Office at (815) 732-2191.
