WHO: Cadet Johnna Sims WHAT: Joint Military Ball WHEN: 20NOV2015 WHERE: Yellowstone Ballroom, University of Wyoming SUMMARY: On 20NOV2015, the Army ROTC Cadets of the Cowboy Battalion and the Air Force ROTC Cadets of Detachment 940 attended the annual joint Military Ball with the accompaniment of their guests. Military Ball is a time honored tradition that consists of a receiving line where Cadets are introduced to the distinguished guests of the evening. After this initial greeting, everyone is seating and the evening progresses with a ceremonial posting of colors. This year, our posting of the colors was accompanied by UW’s female acapella group, the Bettys, singing the National Anthem. Cadets participated in formal toasts and witnessed the presentation of the POW/MIA table, which was left on display throughout the evening to serve as a reminder of all the men and women who could not be present because of their sacrifice. Cadets and their guests were provided the opportunity to hear distinguished guest Wyoming Army National Guard Chief of Staff Colonel Jesse Kirchmeier speak. Originally from North Dakota, COL Jesse Kirchmeier started his military career in 1982 when he enlisted with the Army Reserves to work as a heavy vehicle repair mechanic. COL Jesse Kirchmeier expressed the importance of ethical leadership to Cadets during his speech. He spoke from experience of having to make unfavorable and difficult decisions because they were the right thing to do. His selfless service provided an excellent example and deeply impacted all the Cadets and guests in attendance. The night provided an opportunity for Cadets to unwind, get to know each other and for some it was their first opportunity to experience a taste of ceremony in military culture. The Battalion thanks all the people who had a hand in helping to prepare and keep the event running moving smoothly, with a special thanks to Army ROTC Cadet Lichtfuss and Air Force ROTC Cadet Stait who planned the event and made the evening a wonderful success.
