You use the second person of the verb when you are talking to friends, relations and

Hay (there is, there are) is an impersonal verb. This means that it is only used in the third
person.
Hay que + infinitive is another way of saying what must be done:
Hay que comer un buen desayuno.
You should eat a good breakfast.
Hay que beber dos litros de agua al día.
You should drink two litres of water each day.

Hacer can be used to say how long you have been doing something:
Hace tres años que estudio francés.
I’ve been learning French for three years.
Hace dos días que me duele la cabeza.
I’ve had a headache for two days.
Hace mucho tiempo que no veo a mis primos.
I haven’t seen my cousins for ages.
Notice that hacer is used here in the present tense when in English we use a past tense.
Remember that hacer is also used to talk about the weather:
Hace sol.
It’s sunny.
Hace calor. It’s hot.
Hace frío.
It’s cold.
Hace viento. It’s windy.
Hace buen tiempo. The weather is nice.
Hace mal tiempo.
The weather is bad.
