Course Description
A study of the concepts, processes and interventions of Human Resource Management function.
Topics include aspects of human resource management function and its various tools. It will include
topics related to the strategic HR planning, job designing and job enrichment, recruitment and
selection of employees, managing employees’ performances, managing compensation, and
developing training & development strategy beside developing a healthy employment relationship.
Course Objectives




To understand the dynamics of HRM to make an organization more effective and to enhance
the opportunity for the individual to develop his or her potential.
The course aims at exposing the participants to the basic and strategic aspect of HRM
function.
The course will enable the participants to acquire, develop and sharpen their people
management skills for better HR outcomes.
To develop HR strategies for enhancing organizational effectiveness and systematically
bringing about high-performing organization.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully completed the course will
1. Have developed the awareness about the importance of human resource management
function and the centrality of the role of the HR managers in achieving organizational
goals and objectives.
2. Have basic awareness and skill to plan the manpower requirement, select, appraise,
develop and compensate employees for better organizational outcome.
3. Have assessed how the strategic role of people management function is to be pursued in
the organization for developing a high performance work system (HPWS).
4. Correctly use conceptual frameworks from management research and practice to
diagnose and improve employee performance and healthy workplace relationship.

Attendance
Attendance for the classes is a critical component to secure good grade in the course. Students are
expected to attend every class. Any student who absents more than 7 classes will be
denied from completing the course (i.e., DN). Students are expected and advised to come on
time for the classes. They are supposed to adhere to the norms of the class for maintaining
discipline and decorum of the class. NO MOBLIE PHONE PLEASE. Switch off or put on silent your
mobile.
Participation
Mere physical presence is not enough and students are supposed to actively participate in the
classroom learning. They will be judged on the basis of their concern for the learning, their
organization and preparation for the classes, actively participating in class discussion and helping
other in their learning process. The class will be divided into learning groups and they are supposed
to help each other and share their learning in a group. Please avoid talking, using GSMs or any
distracting behavior in the class.
Individual and Group Assignments
Students will be given individual/Group assignments during the semester from time to time. It might
be a case preparation, understanding and commenting upon any material given in the class or any
other assignment pertaining to the course.
Mid Terms & Final Exams
There will be 2 Mid Term Exams and each exam will carry 15 % of the total grade. Final Exam will
carry 40% weightage and will be held as per university schedule. These exams may consist of
objective type questions (multiple choices, true-false, fill in the blank questions), short essays, and

questions based on a case. There is no make-up for these exams.
Academic Integrity
Student’s conduct for examinations and other assignments is very important and critical part for
their success in the course. Please adhere to the norms of the academic integrity as per the
university rules. Academic misconduct is defined as the use of any dishonest or deceitful means to
gain some academic advantage or benefit. In examination, following actions constitute misconduct:
copying, or attempting to copy, from another student's work, or permitting another student to copy
from your work, or using notes of whatever kind in the formation of answers in a closed book
examination, or impersonation of another student in an examination. Other important misconducts
are: plagiarism, copying and collusion. Plagiarism is using the words, thoughts, ideas, results, etc., of
another person in your written assignment, without acknowledging the source, as if it were the
student's own work. Copying: copying another person's answers in an assignment, paper, project
report, etc. and presenting it, either wholly or with only minor changes, as if it were the student's
own work. Collusion: Working with others on an assignment which is intended to be an individual
assignment, and incorporating their material into your work.
