ELEMENTARY EDUCATION COORDINATING COMMITTEE
October 13, 2011
8:00 a.m.
Dr. Becky Brannock, Steve Brown, Patty Clay, Dr. Jean Dockers, Dr. Gloria Flynn, Dr.
Susan Knell, Dr. Kathy Spillman, Dr. Ray Willard and Dr. Marti York attended the meeting. Ex-officio member in attendance was Dr. Alice Sagehorn.
The newly drafted Assessment System graphic was distributed and discussed.
Recommendations were made for small changes. Dr. Dockers noted that a meeting will be held with each program to explain the graphic in detail and identify components that will be required of the program.
Dr. Dockers posed the question of accepting PSYCH 357 Educational Psychology from other institutions. Discussion ensued. Dr. Becky Brannock expressed concern of the course content at other institutions. The proposal given by Secondary Education
Coordinating Committee was shared. A proposal was made that the course could be accepted for any student that presented a passing score on the PLT and completed the classroom management project within their first semester at PSU. This topic will be revisited in the future.
It was noted that the general feedback being received on PLATO is that K-6 majors do not like it for content exam preparation. They do seem to be pleased with the PLT app for smartphones, etc. It was noted that there is also a content app now available.
Dr. Knell reported that the K-6 program is working on course alignment. All courses are now on the matrix. They will be meeting next week to analyze and identify holes.
Dr. Dockers noted that supervisors are currently working to revise the Teacher Work
Sample.
The next meeting will be Thursday, November 10 th
at 8:00 a.m. It will be held in 126
Hughes Hall.
