Seminar in International Management
Prerequisites
Graduate standing.
Description
A survey of theories and issues related to managing the internationalization of business firms and
multinational management.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Discuss the major issues and challenges that arise as organizations move from domestic to
international operations.
2. Apply theories of national culture to business problems, and explain the role and effects of
cultural assumptions on business thinking and planning.
3. Discuss methods of conducting business appropriate to specific foreign environments.
4. Differentiate among the political, legal, ethical, financial, economic, and socioeconomic
environments of international business.
5. Determine the appropriate organizational structure for an international firm.
6. Describe the major features of leadership, motivation, and intercultural communication in
international business
7. Discuss the major issues in international human-resource management, including expatriate
issues.
8. Identify appropriate modes of entry into international operations.
9. Apply international-management strategies to business objectives in an apt scenario.
Purpose
To provide a basic understanding of how to operate in a global environment. This course lays the
groundwork for undertaking more specific topics of study among the international-management
and international-relations concentration electives. MSM International Management
concentration requirement. MBA unspecified elective (non-Accounting). MSHRM elective.

instructor syllabus for this course, which must also comply with the content specifications outlined in the Troy University Faculty Handbook.
The objectives included on this Master Syllabus must be included among the objectives on the instructor’s syllabus, which may expand upon the
same as the instructor sees fit. The statement of purpose seeks to position the course properly within the curriculum and should be consulted by
