IBEAR XXVII (2004-2005) Class Profiles Marshall School of Business AUSTRALIA Alex Hunter comes to IBEAR program from APP Corporation in Sydney, Australia. APP Corporation specializes in project management and management consulting across public and private sectors of the property and finance industries in the Asia Pacific region. Alex joined APP to troubleshoot high profile Olympic projects prior to the Sydney 2000 Games, and was promoted to Project Manager of infrastructure development and pre-construction remediation for significant Australian development sites. Alex’s expertise led to management of successful business development and restructure projects for private and public clients in Australia including State Police, Rail Infrastructure Corporation, Australian Gas Light Company, TransGrid and Energy Australia. Alex has a strong interest in international equity markets and has built a portfolio of international stocks over the past eight years. Alex was admitted as an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia after recently completing graduate studies in applied finance and investment. On completion of the IBEAR MBA, he seeks a project finance role with focus on the Asia Pacific region. BRAZIL *Acyr Borges joins the IBEAR program from the Henkel Group, a world leader in industrial adhesives headquartered in Germany. Mr. Borges brings a vast international and managerial experience accumulated over 18 years of several management positions in Latin America and most recently in Asia, where he lived for nearly 7 years. Mr. Borges joined the company in 1991 and was its director of sales and marketing in Asia Pacific since 1998. In that role he was instrumental in the company’s expansion into the Asian market. The division under Mr. Borges’s responsibility increased sales from nearly zero to over $20 Million during his tenure. To achieve this result, Mr. Borges prepared and implemented marketing plans that included the expansion of the sales force throughout Asia, acquisitions, and partnerships. Previously, Mr. Borges held a similar position in Latin America where he worked to expand the sales and distribution networks. Before Henkel, Mr. Borges also held management positions in manufacturing and R&D with Bostik (currently # 3 in the world of industrial adhesives) in Brazil. He earned his degree in chemical engineering in 1981 from Faculdade de Engenharia Industrial and a bachelor degree in business administration in 1987 from Mackenzie, both renowned universities in Brazil. Following IBEAR, Mr. Borges seeks a high level position in General Management or Sales & Marketing in an internationally focused company. CHINA Connie Jia Zheng joins the IBEAR program from SAPET Development, Corp., sa company which is expanding its petroleum business and technology development operations in the South and North American market from China. As an International Accounting Coordinator, Ms. Zheng coordinated affiliate accounting and related computer system operations to implement and maintain integrated finance and accounting systems utilized worldwide by SAPET and its international affiliates as well as the Chinese parent company. Further, she studied and analyzed general plan proposals, conferred with corporate officials to obtain details of general plan, and obtained system requirements from corporate and international accounting management personnel to compile raw data from plan development. In 2003, as a coordinator and interpreter of the parent company’s delegation, Connie attended the China-U.S. Relations: Past, Present and Future conference, which was hosted by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, Texas A&M University, and others. Ms. Zheng earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from CSU, Fullerton. Following IBEAR, Ms. Zheng seeks a management position in an internationally focused company. HONG KONG * Sandra Lau joins the IBEAR program form the Asia regional office of International Paper, a Dow Jones company and one of the largest paper and forestry providers in the world. As the senior Business Analyst in the regional office, she was responsible for corporate financial analysis, recommending on regional mergers and acquisition deals and business improvement initiatives to various Asian business groups. Sandra had extensive experience working in many of the company’s manufacturing subsidiaries in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and mainland China to function as the project leader or consultant to streamline their business process. INDIA * Mohinder Walia joins the IBEAR program after being the Group CEO with The Commander Group in India. His fast-track career of 12 years has provided him with value-added top management expertise, apart from opportunities to work with Global Fortune 500 Companies such as Carat Media, Otto Versand, and Reliance Industries. International business in the mediaentertainment industry has been his major forte. Mohinder’s most prestigious career achievement came as the head of international business at Nimbus Communications Ltd., a top 10 company in the Indian media-entertainment industry. He successfully led the gigantic US $550 million acquisition of exclusive worldwide marketing and broadcast rights of all International Cricket Council (ICC) matches, to be conducted between 2001 and 2007, in spite of strong competition from global media-entertainment corporations. Mohinder deviated from the business of media-entertainment to head the packaging company Commander Group, in order to fine-tune his top management expertise in a mid-sized company. At Commander, within one year, Mohinder effected a 64 % turnover increase in the company’s packaging business, from US $7.3 million to US $12 million. Also, he successfully diversified into pharmaceuticals with a high-potential soft gel capsule manufacturing project, which will record profits equaling a 25% share (US $6.75 million) of Commander’s 2005-2006 projected turnover of US $27 million. After IBEAR, Mohinder plans to head a large corporation in the media-entertainment industry. JAPAN *Fumihiko Ezure joins the IBEAR program from Citicorp Diners Club Japan, a leading international credit card company and subsidiary of Citibank. He joined the company in 1995 and was an Assistant Manager of the Corporate Card Sales & Marketing Division. Mr. Ezure played crucial roles overseeing the acquisition of new card members, establishment of new sales channels, and the promotion of credit card sales volume. He counseled a number of major international corporations on travel expense management and MIS (Management Information Systems), and successfully established contracts with them for corporate card products. Using his IT knowledge and leadership skills, Mr. Ezure has also served as project leader in the development of a procurement system with online workflow functionality for corporate purchasing, and created new business opportunities for the entire Diners Club. In addition to corporate marketing skills, he has extensive experience of consumer marketing. He worked for the Mail Order Marketing Division and sold luxury products such as jewelry, watches and wines to Diners Club card members using monthly magazines, card statement and direct mails as marketing medium. Mr. Ezure holds a B.A. in Sociology from Nihon University. After completing the IBEAR MBA program, Mr. Ezure intends to pursue an executive marketing position for consumer products in the international market. Ryo Fukuda joins IBEAR program from Mizuho Financial Group, Japan’s largest financial institution which provides comprehensive financial services, such as banking, securities, and trust and asset management. Mr. Fukuda joined the company in 1995 and has fulfilled numerous responsibilities at the company’s offices both in Yokohama and Tokyo. Throughout his career, he has accumulated experience in corporate finance and credit analysis both for domestic and international loan markets and multicultural business environments. Most recently, Mr. Fukuda was a manager of the International Credit Division at the Head office of Mizuho Corporate Bank. In that role he supervised the loan portfolio of U.S. and Europe based multinational companies and took leading roles in structuring securitization transactions, for which the company acted as the arranger or agent. Mr. Fukuda earned his bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Tokyo, and his master's degree in Law from the Northwestern University School of Law. Following IBEAR, Mr. Fukuda intends to continue his career in corporate finance with a focus on corporate restructuring and private equity. Takumune Kanaya joins the IBEAR program from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, one of the four major banks and the most profitable bank in Japan that its assets are over US $850B and its operation profit reached US $81B in 2004. Mr. Kanaya joined the company in 1995 and has held various positions including corporate finance, human resources, and planning. These opportunities gave him broad perspective in his banking operations. In 2000, Mr. Kanaya was selected to represent Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation to planning the banking industry’s future in Japan. Most recently, Mr. Kanaya was Vice President of the Planning Department Corporate Banking Unit and was responsible for planning strategy to develop commercial banking business with major Japanese companies. Yoshiyuki Kasuga joins the IBEAR program from Development Bank of Japan (DBJ), the comprehensive-policy based financial institution funded by the Japanese Government. Mr. Kasuga joined the bank in 1994, and has accumulated numerous skills and experiences in the finance and management field. His latest position was Department Deputy Director for Regional Development. In that role, he designed finance schemes for regional companies to start new businesses. He also consulted for local governments creating plans to encourage regional economy from a financial point of view. Previously, Mr. Kasuga loaned US $242 M to urban development projects and wrote restructuring schemes for US $234 M non-performing loans in the Kansai Branch. He was also one of the core members establishing DBJ by merging two governmental financial institutions in 1999. Mr. Kasuga earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Kyoto University. Following IBEAR, he intends to continue his career in policy based-finance as a manager. Masashi Kawashima joins the IBEAR program from the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the world’s largest electric power utility which produces and sells electric power to 27 million customers in Japan. Mr. Kawashima joined the company in 1995 and took the responsibility of construction management of power plants. In 1997, due to his extensive experience in computer analysis, he was designated to Tokyo Electric Power Services Company, one of the most important subsidiaries of TEPCO. As a chief designer for the next 6 years, Mr. Kawashima led the design projects of liquid natural gas (LNG) tanks and water supply pipelines and drastically decreased overall construction costs in both projects by 20%. Due to his achievements, TEPCO awarded him two prestigious awards from the president: Cost-Cutting Award in 2000 and Technology Innovation Award in 2002. Mr. Kawashima earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. Niina Kurosaka joins the IBEAR program from Matsushita Electric Industrial Co,. Ltd., a manufacturer and sales company of electronic products such as video and audio equipment, home appliances, communication and industrial equipments, and electronic components and batteries under the brand name Panasonic. Ms.Kurosaka joined the company in 1998 and has been engaged in a wide range of roles such as sales, marketing and public relations in the Russian market. Most recently, she worked as a PR staff and grew the reputation of Panasonic brand further by planning various communication activities in the market. Her tasks were organizing press conferences of new products, editing the corporate journal Panasonic ideas for life magazine, as well as inviting journalists to Japan for press tours. When she worked as a sales staff for Cell Phones (GSM), and telecommunication products in the Russian market, Ms.Kurosaka brought a 30% annual increase in sales by introducing new market-oriented products. Ms.Kurosaka earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies from the University of London, UK. Following IBEAR, Ms.Kurosaka seeks a career as a brand manager. *Haechul Tetsu Lee, a native of Tokyo, joins IBEAR from Softbank Corporation, one of Japan’s leading broadband service providers. Mr. Lee reached a pinnacle of success as a start-up member that launched the Carview Corporation, a joint venture between Microsoft Corp., Seven-Eleven Corporation, Yahoo Japan, and Softbank Corp. Appointed Director of Sales in 2002, he oversaw the entire profit and revenue of the company. Established with capital of $30M, Carview grew under his sales direction into a profitable business offering five innovative and successful e-commerce services. He was in charge of not only generating over 70% of the entire sales and profits from the company’s initial stage to its current monthly sustainable growth, but also mediating contracts, including a joint-venture agreement with Microsoft that resulted in an advantageous position between partners and led the company to become the number one car portal site in Japan. Prior to starting up Carview Corporation, Mr. Lee amassed distinction in Uchida Yoko Co., Ltd., by working with Steelcase Inc., as a start-up member of sales consultants and strategists to popularize Steelcase products in the Japanese market. In 1997, Mr. Lee graduated from Chuo University in Tokyo with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and System Engineering and earned his Diploma of Business Administration from UC Berkeley Extension in 2003. Following IBEAR, he will pursue a corporate strategic position in international business. * Hideoki Matsunaga has 10 years professional experience in The Sanwa Bank Ltd. (UFJ Bank Ltd.), one of the biggest Japanese commercial banks. Mr. Matsunaga joined the bank in 1991 and worked for the head office and two branches in Osaka, Japan. Since he moved to the bank’s headquarters in 1995, he had been in charge of distressed loan business, that is, debt restructuring, loan sales and purchases. At the Tokyo headquarters, Mr. Matsunaga was a manager and went through various types of troubled loans located in North America, Europe, and Asia. He was also in charge of the tax and bad debt reserve reports to Japan’s tax authority. During his time in Singapore, Mr. Matsunaga was a manager of the credit department and acted as a liaison for the Singapore branch, Kuala Lumpur office, and headquarters. He led a team specialized in sales of distressed assets and handled bad loan purchases as well. Mr. Matsunaga earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Tokyo and a master’s degree in law from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Ms. Mitani earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. Following the IBEAR program, Ms. Mitani intends to continue her career in the asset management industry with a focus on venture capital. *Kojiro Nojiri joins the IBEAR program from Global Sage, a Hong Kong based global executive search firm specializing in the financial industry. Mr. Nojiri started to work at the company as a senior consultant in Jan. 2004. In that role, he was responsible for searching for equity sales people, research analysts and investment bankers for major US investment banks. Previously, he worked at Morgan Stanley as a senior Japanese equity sales person covering international and domestic institutional clients from 1996 to 2003. For the last three years at Morgan Stanley, he was head of a sales team of 15 with a variety of nationalities. Prior to Morgan Stanley, he was with Lehman Brothers as a Japanese equity sales person from 1994 to 1996. Mr. Nojiri started his business career in 1987 at Nikko Securities, one of the biggest investment banks in Japan. He spent five years in the London office and two years in the Tokyo office of Nikko Securities. Mr. Nojiri is a Chartered Member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (CMA). He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Keio University in 1987. Mr. Taku Seki joins the IBEAR program from Hitachi, Ltd., one of the biggest information technology and manufacturing companies in Japan. Mr. Seki has 4-years experience in system engineering, such as network integration, building up new disaster recovery systems for three banks including one of the biggest banks in Japan, and building up international network monitor center that covers more than 80 countries as a project leader. He also has 2-years experience in marketing and during this period, he developed brand-new ASP services, successfully obtained five of the biggest insurance companies in Japan, managed whole process and boosted the sales profit rate from 8%(average) to 44%(new services). His 4-years experience in Project Management as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) includes development of standard methodologies to apply SLA to Japanese firms. He is also an inventor, who has 4 US patents and more than 10 patents in Japan. He completed his master course in logical physics at Graduate School of Tohoku University, breaking the world record for supercomputer calculation concerning nanotechnology both in capacity and in performance. After completion of IBEAR, he plans to continue his career in strategic outsourcing services with a focus on M&A, procurement of IT services from pacific-rim countries. *Atsuko Tazawa joins the IBEAR program from Central Research Laboratory, Hitachi Ltd., a prominent high-tech research laboratory in Japan. In the laboratory, Ms. Tazawa was part of the R&D project team whose mission was to provide ultra-highdensity hard drives utilizing a new technology, Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR). Her responsibility was to develop design methodology based on recording physics. Using the methodology, she drew a road map of PMR and evaluated the feasibility. The team received a first annual prize among other research project teams in Hitachi in 2000. Prior to this experience, Ms. Tazawa made a primary finding of a basic characteristic in an optical storage material during her graduate study at Waseda University. The report was published in a prestigious journal, Applied Physics Letters, in 1996. During those research experiences, Ms. Tazawa released 16 publications in total and filed two patents, which are now pending. She was also invited to speak at the International Conference on Materials for Advanced Technologies, ICMAT 2001. Ms. Tazawa earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Pure and Applied Physics from Waseda University. Following IBEAR she seeks a responsible position in R&D and product strategy to introduce new technologies to society. *Eiri Yamaguchi joins the IBEAR program from PricewaterhouseCoopers, a world-wide management consulting firm. Mr. Yamaguchi joined the company in 2000 and worked as a specialist in supply chain management of pharmaceutical companies. Because of his unusual breadth of competency and his excellent skills in production management in particular, he took on managerial roles in five consulting projects. In those roles, he led the department into a new subfield of consulting, creating the first-ever globally practical application of new compliance cost management theory. He also introduced a new process simulation technique to PwC Japan, increasing revenues two million dollars per annum. Previously, Mr. Yamaguchi undertook, from conception to completion, cost reduction projects of seven million dollars at Showa Sangyo Co., Ltd., a Japanese food manufacturer, where he worked for six years in production control and quality control roles. By drastically improving management’s strategic planning process, he successfully increased profits by a full 10%. Mr. Yamaguchi earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Tokyo University. KOREA *HyunBong (Ryan) An joins the IBEAR program from Cineon Entertainment, a company that produces, imports, and exports films internationally. Mr. An founded Cineon Entertainment in 2001 and is the CEO of this growing company. During his tenure, he expanded Cineon through the development of new suppliers and increased customer relations management. Mr. An also oversaw the transmission and transportation of films to be imported/exported, analyzed films and business scenarios, and led film introduction events to help convince distributors of a film’s distribution value. Mr. An was involved in scenario planning with writers and began to act as the producer in various film projects. Prior to starting his own company, Mr. An was an English interpreter and translator in the U.S. Army while he was stationed in Korea. He received an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) for dedicated service, leadership, and problem-solving skills from the United States Secretary of the Army. He was also a freelance English and French interpreter and translator in the entertainment industries, Information Technology industries and Trade markets. This included major multi-national enterprises such as Samsung and LG Electronics. Mr. An also translated films, documentaries, and dramas from and into Korean, English, and French. He is not only fluent in Korean, English, and French but proficient in Japanese as well. Mr. An earned a diploma in the Competitive Study of Film and Literature from Seoul National University and undertook general studies in business, science, and law from the University of Maryland. After obtaining his MBA, Mr. An intends to continue his work in the entertainment industry. Eunok Choi joins the IBEAR program from Investus Global Corp., a company that provides management consulting and financial advisory services including M&A and funding advisement as a Korean consulting and investment firm established in 2002. It consists of partners and senior consultants who have built their reputation and professionalism through their affiliation with international consulting groups. Like most of its members, Mr. Choi joined the company in 2002 after he had worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen. As a director of its financial advisory service team, he successfully managed projects for financially distressed companies. Previously, he worked for the Korea Non-bank Deposit Insurance Corporation (KNDIC) that had the Korean non-bank supervisory authority and eventually merged with the Financial Supervisory Service. During his KNDIC period, he planned and coordinated the restructuring of the Korean Merchant Banking Industry in 1998 when Asia experienced the financial crisis. He passed the Korean CPA examinations in 1993 and has been a registered member of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 1995. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Seoul National University. After IBEAR, Mr. Choi will continue to make further contributions to Investus Global Corp. Seung Woo Ham joins the IBEAR program from Prudential of Korea (POK), the subsidiary of Prudential Financial, one of the most successful foreign players in the South Korean Financial Services Industry. Currently, as a general manager of corporate planning, he is leading the Product Development Team and the New Product Implementation Team (representatives of other teams) to develop and launch innovative products. Since he joined POK in 1990, he pioneered the Dollar Denominated Whole Life Plan (DDWL), the Retirement Income Plan, and the Variable Universal Life Plan, leading exclusive rights to sell the DDWL for Prudential. He has a rich experience in cross cultural working environments, successfully cooperating with nine business units all over the world under Prudential. Mr. Ham holds a BS in Mathematics from Seoul National University, is a fellow of the Korean Actuarial Association, a fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) of America, and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) of America. After completing the IBEAR MBA program, he plans to continue working in the International Insurance Group of Prudential Financial. Sung Chul Kang joined the IBEAR program from LG Electronics, a global electronics company that produces home appliances, multimedia products, telecommunication equipment and handset products. Most recently, he worked as a manager on the planning administration team. He was responsible for devising the annual business plan and evaluating business performance. He greatly contributed to building the global consolidated planning system in 2002 and played an important role in risk management. Previously he was in charge of long-term strategies in the strategic planning team. Also, he served his duty as a chief of staff for the CEO in 2000. Mr. Kang earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Seoul National University in Korea. Following IBEAR, Mr. Kang plans to make further contributions to LG Electronics with a focus on international marketing. *Jong Woo (James) Kim joins the IBEAR program from AIG Life Insurance, a member of American International Group, Inc., with 6 years experience in the insurance industry. During his 3 year stay at AIG, as Strategic Planner and Account Manager, Mr. Kim initiated a Bancassurance (a coinage from bank and insurance) project in Korea and worked with major banks. Mr. Kim made AIG generated Requests for Proposals from banks, and opened 15 accounts for Bancassurance. Also, Mr. Kim served as core member of the Task Force Team of establishing the Joint Venture Company with Woori Financial Holding Company, the largest financial holding company in Korea. Prior to AIG, Mr. Kim worked for Dongbu-Axa Life Insurance Company where he served as core member of training team that developed training courses curricula, and trained people from all around the organization. Mr. Kim earned his bachelor’s degree in Applied Biology and master’s degree in Financial Systems from Dongguk University in Korea. KwangJin (Paul) Park joins the IBEAR program from LG Electronics, a global leader in electronics and communications products. As a Manager of Technology Planning, he has more than 9 years of “Technology Alliance” experience in the information, telecommunication and semiconductor industries. In that role, Mr. Park has directed over 300 transactions worldwide, worth US$ 4.9 billion, involving joint ventures and developments, technology licenses and consultation. Mr. Park also formulated and managed the company’s technology planning, successfully launching numerous innovative business and cooperation models. King joins the IBEAR program from Wavecom Inc., a developer and manufacture of GSM and CDMA cellular modules. Mr. King joined the company as a Field Application Manager. He and his team grew the number of design wins from a few customers to over 25 customers in a nine month period while working for Wavecom. Previous to his work withWavecom, Mr. King held several product marketing positions with National Semiconductor. He successfully sold the company’s LVDS interface technology into the telecom and wireless markets. Mr. King also has extensive international experience with customers. He lived in Germany for five years while working for National Semiconductor. He also grew his division’s sales by 80% in Japan and Asia Pacific. Mr. King earned a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1991. Following IBEAR, Mr. King seeks a marketing management position with a technology-based company focused on the global market place. * Paul Leary joins the IBEAR program from Mountain Engineering, a California based developer and operator of renewable electric energy resources. Mr. Leary is a principal partner, and is involved on a consulting basis. His ten years of experience in the engineering and construction industries have given him valuable insight into managing human resources, utilizing subcontractors and vendors, and communicating effectively with clients. Previously, Mr. Leary spent three years with Doty Bros., a construction company specializing in civil construction of electric substations, water treatment plants and utilities. He was the onsite project engineer of five multi-million dollar projects with clientele including Disneyland, ABB, and Shell Oil. Prior to this, Mr. Leary excelled with Network Development Consultants, Inc. (NDC, Inc.), where he was instrumental in developing company standards for collecting, storing, and sharing field data. Within three years, he worked his way up from junior field engineer to the project manager of its Southern California field office. He was directly responsible for a $6 million project involving route study, substructure research, engineering, permitting, and inspection of over 200 miles of fiber optic conduit and manhole systems throughout the greater Los Angeles area. His clientele included SBC (PacBell), Qwest and Bechtel. Mr. Leary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration - finance from Montana State University. Following IBEAR, Mr. Leary seeks a general management position with an international firm within the real estate development, entertainment, or energy industries. *Seok Lee joins the IBEAR program from Hotwire.com, a leading discount travel web site and subsidiary of InterActive Corp. Mr. Lee joined Hotwire in 2001 to design and deploy a cutting edge data warehouse. As a lead engineer, he designed the hardware and software architecture, provided technical training, and managed the major data warehouse projects. He worked closely with Hotwire's product teams to analyze customer data as well as the database marketing team to deploy an awardwinning personalized email campaign. In addition to the design and development of the infrastructure, he also performed indepth analysis and tuning of the data warehouse to achieve a 75% reduction in execution time, resulting in a more reliable and highly available system. Previously, Seok worked at Qwest Communications and Level 3 Communications in a multi Terabyte data warehouse environment. Mr. Lee earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. He has fluency in English and is conversational in Korean. Mr. Mason joined the company in 2001 as part of the Professional Services organization, where he has assisted customers to leverage a detailed understanding of consumer demand into immediate financial results. Recently, Mr. Mason completed an implementation for a major retailer, delivering a positive ROI through a $7 million dollar profit increase in the initial 6 months. Additional responsibilities included translating customer requests into detailed product enhancements, testing core functionality, and developing and refining the first generation processes and methodologies for implementations, leading DemandTec to profitability after only 3 years. Previously, Mr. Mason worked for Deloitte Consulting where he managed over $100 million in accounts as a Project Controller. Included in his experiences at Deloitte was an international assignment in Sydney, Australia, in which he served as release testing manager for a successful global software implementation. Following IBEAR, Mr. Mason seeks a career in the financial services industry. * Lorna Murdock joins the IBEAR program as the Founder and Executive Producer of Lorna Murdock Production Services – a business service that directed strategic creative production and tactical execution of marketing films and business theater events. Since 1991, Ms. Murdock has managed projects with budgets as large as US $1.6M, maintaining average profit margins of 35%. Her clients included pharmaceutical, biotech, and high tech companies including Abbott Laboratories, Amgen, Genentech and Hewlett-Packard. Through her leadership and communication style, Ms. Murdock optimized production team performance, project execution, and creative ingenuity. From 2000 – 2002, Ms. Murdock was staff Executive Producer of Corporate Events and Media for Drury Design Dynamics – a New York-based production company that had recently entered the San Francisco market. Ms. Murdock consulted Drury’s executive management about its San Francisco strategy, while building the company’s high-tech industry service offering. Ms. Murdock earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UCLA. Following IBEAR, she seeks to further her marketing expertise by directing international marketing and brand strategy in the medical device industry. *Anthony L. Pessino joins the IBEAR Program with considerable strategic planning experience in the entertainment industry and recent admission to the State Bar of California. Immediately prior to IBEAR, Mr. Pessino worked in Corporate Counsel at Red Hat, Inc., a leading maker of Linux based software. During his externship at its global headquarters, he drafted the international trade and copyright corporate policies and compliance procedures, which Red Hat currently employs worldwide. Prior to his work as an attorney, Mr. Pessino served as a business analyst for Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative force behind Disney’s theme parks. In that role, his strategic proposals were instrumental to numerous high-level initiatives, including Hong Kong Disneyland, worldwide attraction planning and the reorganization of a major production facility. Mr. Pessino also possesses advertising and brand building experience, having worked at TBWA\Chiat\Day. As a media planner, he formulated and implemented national media campaigns worth over $100 million for ABC Network’s prime time, kids and sports programming. Mr. Pessino graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2004, where he was a member of the Holderness Moot Court and The North Carolina Journal of Law and Technology. While at UNC, he assisted in the preparation of Thomas Hazen’s Broker Dealer Operations Under Securities and Commodities Law, the foremost treatise on the subject. He holds B.B.A and B.A. degrees from Loyola Marymount University, graduating magna cum laude and with departmental honors. After completion of IBEAR, Mr. Pessino seeks employment with a top international law firm where he can pursue corporate transaction work. *Timothy Ritschel comes to IBEAR from The Economic Development Council of Peoria, Illinois. This is an organization whose goal is to attract new businesses to Peoria and also enhance those already working in the area. Mr. Ritschel worked as a project management consultant for the organization. He designed a federal grant to help the regional airport attract a route to Dallas. He created an economic impact model to help the community more easily comprehend the effect of each additional job to the region. Mr. Ritschel spent 6 years working for Goldman Sachs, Inc., as an Equity Derivative Market Maker on the Chicago Board Option Exchange trading floor. He managed numerous equity option positions during this period. Most notably, Mr. Ritschel was Goldman Sachs, Inc.’s market maker for Enron, Inc., during its troubles. Mr. Ritschel is interested in pursuing an investment banking career in corporate finance with an emphasis on Asia. *Jane Yu joins the IBEAR program from H. F. California, Inc., a privately held international metal trade firm headquartered in Pasadena, California. In her role as a network engineer, Jane and her team successfully designed and implemented a cost-saving solution to convert smaller Frame Relay offices to use DSL and VPN technologies with ISDN backup. Prior to this, Jane was a staff member of Bell Labs China, the R & D of Lucent Technologies, Inc., a major network equipment vendor. There she made contributions to several projects with Lucent BU and top universities in Beijing. In 2001, she was granted the Employee Excellence Award by Lucent. In leisure time, Jane has her own business of running two e-stores selling computer hardware and software online. She handles every aspect of her business from marketing to customer services. Jane holds an M.S. in Telecommunications Management from Oklahoma State University, a B.A. in English Literature from Fuzhou University, China. She also studied Computer Science at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. VENEZUELA *Carlos Hernandez Isava joins the IBEAR MBA program from TotalBank Banco Comercial, where he served as Chief Market Strategist.
