News from Mrs. Wilmeth Dilley Elementary 1st Six Weeks – Week 4 This Week’s News… Thank you for presenting the yellow “Kindergarten” card at mom-pick up. This is for the safety of our students at Dilley Elementary. It helps me know who is supposed to pick up your child and it helps me remember who presented it when your child was picked up. Again, thank you and I appreciate your help with this!!!! Things I would recommend working on at home: -Tieing Shoes -Rhyming -Practice sight words daily. -Practice writing numbers 1-5. We use these sayings when writing the numbers: 1 – come straight down and that is all 2 – curl around and slide to the right 3 – halfway around and around again 4 – down, slide right, and cut it in two 5 – down and around and give it a hat Poem of the Week “Humpty, Dumpty” September 15, 2014 What we are working on… Writer’s Workshop / Interactive Writing – generating and sharing ideas for writing. Stations – Reviewing previous taught centers and introducing the following new centers – Read-Around the Room, Listening, and Poetry. English Language Arts – identifying and writing upper and lowercase letters; writing first and last name; responding to questions about texts read aloud; identifying the sequence of a story; using descriptive words when speaking; identifying rhyming words; make predictions based on the cover and title of a book; understand the concepts of print; identifying character; Math – counting 1-5; number order; recognizing the quantity amount without counting using “pip” cards. Science – exploring size and mass, shape and color. Social Studies – identifying school workers and describing the job the person does; identifying jobs and explaining their purpose; The Constitution; identifying the senses that are used to explore various forms of energy such as light.
