You are invited… to submit an entry in the Freshman Year Experience creative project competition. Participation is optional. The winner receives a gift certificate to pay for a semester’s books! The competition welcomes creative responses to the summer reading text in the form of Written reflection Journal entries Essays Collages Music Film/Video Poetry Graphic Art, Mixed Media, etc. Performance Art Computer graphics Fiction Screen plays Textiles Other ideas? Creative projects should convey your self-reflection and understanding about the themes expressed in the novel AND address all or some of these questions: Attending college is the next great step you have chosen for your life. In many ways this next four years will complete “your coming of age” journey. Ideally, you will find a goal around which to define life’s meaning during these next years. In what ways does your summer reading give your time in college direction? Raise new questions? Or re-define your perspectives? The author chose to address significant issues of the twenty-first century. Our world today is one of global interchange and global reach, from the internet to global warming to new ailments and new fears. How do your readings reflect these issues? More than anything else, human beings are looking for their purpose and their place in the world throughout their lives. For many this includes love, a vocation, and a reason for being. Ultimately, that role may be a bit different than anticipated. What is your vocation or purpose? How does college fit into those plans? What is your dream?
