Classroom Language Dr. Abdulkareem Alharbi What is meant by classroom language? It’s the language used by teachers to communicate with their pupils. It is the language which can be used to give instructions, to check attendance, to correct a mistake, to praise pupils, to ask a question, to explain a vocabulary item or a structure. What kinds of classroom language are there? Verbal: Non- verbal: gestures, facial expressions and tone of voice. What can you understand of these gestures? Classroom language doesn’t refer exclusively to the language used by the teacher! I includes language used by pupils to interact with the teacher and among one another. How to teach this? Give some examples.
