Announcements a. Approve minutes i. Moved – Shannon Stuart ii. 2nd - Tia Schultz iii. Carried unanimously b. Phase 4 committee meeting minutes were handed out. i. Score that is passing for Spring 14 would be 5 1’s; 6 1’s would be failing (edTPA) ii. Moved – Lana Collet-Klingenberg iii. 2nd – Shannon Stuart iv. Discussion: 1. 1/3 could be a 1 2. It is a pilot 3. It is only for this semester v. Carried unanimously c. Common core workshop i. Ozalle would like to have comments about edTPA sent to her so she can represent the department at the workshop. ii. She’s been asked by the dean, assistant dean to do this and bring a student iii. General consensus feels it is too early to have student input iv. Should talk to Marie Benson about what the college wants shared v. Ron and Larry know we are on the forefront so they probably want comments from us d. Comdis program is looking for anyone willing to talk about our grad program. Shannon is not able to go but she has talking points. Let Shannon know if you are available. e. Staffing form will be passed around by Kelly 2. Grad Field Work a. Grad program has to be 36 credits b. Add field take something away – could take 380/580 away and have phase 3 taught in fieldwork c. Fieldwork would be coupled with 761 d. Specfield 585 & 685 A, B, C on books already e. Rather than change program use fields on book f. Maybe for grad field it should got through the field office g. If we partner with a school for this fieldwork it would be easier to place the students h. For cross cat we want to make fieldwork mandatory i. Cannot be coupled with undergrad Make 685 ABC – 3 credits and take as an additional course Do we do as an elective orjust do a full curricular change Do we want to restructure phase 3 as a mini edTPA Could we run a fall for no field Phase 3 and spring with field i. This would hold up people n. Do we want to have a summer field i. This will cause a problem with different levels of knowledge in the course ii. Could hold up student in their program o. Perhaps we make the decision that our rotation is Fall and students may have to go longer p. Inherently summer placement could be a problem i. Too much summer content now q. Shannon would like to go with plan we developed last summer r. Can we pilot the new grad program and make the changes we want to “prove” the program s. DPI has dropped the Phase process i. If this is correct then the college needs to communicate this to the departments t. Can include phase 3 in 785 u. Can change number from 685 to 785 and increase credits to 3 credits v. Need to remember to do this so we can match syllabi for Audit and Review w. 785 – might need more support i. Meet in class room ii. Have to have 12 students to run the class iii. Find a way to run and count as one class with fewer than 12 students iv. Couple with 761 v. Offer once a year – spring vi. No exceptions 761 & 785 must be taken together vii. Probably come into being for spring 15 viii. If don’t make deadline for sp15 run it as a workshop x. Katy Casey will write the course proposal for Specfld 785 y. Shannon Stuart will write the course proposal to delete speced 580 3. Saudi Students a. Visa requires strict background check b. Schools vary on whether they will allow this to be the background check c. Beaver Dam is open to Saudi Students d.
