the rooms in her two sections of Mental Health Foundations appear to have been flipped.
3) Discussed student concerns.
4) Examine the schedule at any conferences which might lead to class coverage. No faculty
will be available on October 17th due to attendance at the ACES conference. No clients
will be seen in practicum that day due to lack of coverage. That appeared to be the only
date of concern for the semester.

7) Discussed the group interview process for October admissions (October 11th). The
structure of the day was discussed with a focus on applicants examining the concept of
being a culturally competent counselor. Faculty discussed the use of a writing
assignment during the afternoon, while individual interviews would occur. Faculty
discussed this writing sample as compared to those which would be turned in with the
application. Faculty acknowledged that it would provide another sample of the writing
ability of potential students.
8) Discussed the results of the advising survey. It was noted that most students were happy
about their advising, if they felt that their advisor was caring and available. Faculty
discussed the fact that some students do not initiate contact and may need a nudge (i.e.,
e-mail invitation to all advisees) to enhance their connection with their advisor. Faculty
discussed the importance of addressing the role of advisor at orientation, since at the
graduate level this may be different than what students experienced during their
undergraduate education. The plan for was made for annual surveys in the spring to
provide ongoing feedback.
9) Discussed the results of various other surveys:
a. Assessments for interns and site supervisors – some concern that the assessment
tools don’t address the needs of school counselors as well. Anene Okocha
identified a form used previously that may help with this and will distribute to all
faculty.
b. NCE – Our students did very well with a 94.4444% pass rate.
c. The employment data from Career Services was generally very positive. While
only 67% of school counselors had jobs at the time of this survey of 2012
graduates, it was noted that this fall, school districts were seeking school
counselors to fill present positions.
10) Discussed plans for the counseling workshop on October 25th from 9:00-4:00. The thrust
will be to enhance counselors’ ability to address the career development of veterans and
military service members. Anene Okocha is coordinating this workshop and is searching
for the appropriate venue to allow some career exploration small group activities. Two
speakers have been identified and brochures should be out next week.
11) Clinical/practicum updates – The lab is up and running and clients will begin to be seen
next week. A meeting with internship instructors will take place tomorrow and practicum
instructors will meet every other week with Jeff Cook, clinical director.
12) Discussed CSI financial support for our supervision summit and expressed appreciation
for their support.
13) Brenda O’Beirne reminded all faculty that syllabi are due to Alicia Stone-Jackson
tomorrow.
14) Fall orientation for new students will take place next Thursday at 4:00PM. The agenda
was discussed. Jennifer Betters-Bubon will address the handbook. David Van Doren will
discuss the program of studies and advising. Brenda O’Beirne will address the
opportunities available to all students at UWW. Jeff Cook will address the importance of
self-care. Anene Okocha will highlight academic tips.
15) A meeting will be held for all students interested in going to Scotland next summer to
take the two courses offered in the Counselor Education in Scotland program. The
meeting will be held from 4:15 to 5:00PM on Tuesday September 24th in the 3002
