COUNSELOR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT MEETING MINUTES January 15, 2014 The department meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm in Winther 3002. Present were Anene Okocha, Brenda O’Beirne (Chair), Cindy Anderton (recording), Don Norman, David Van Doren, Jeff Cook, Jennifer Betters-Bubon, Krista Kim and Laura Pressley. 1. The minutes of the last department meeting were unanimously approved on a Van Doren/Betters-Bubon motion. 2. Additions to agenda were added 3. Previous learning was revisited and Don Norman brought in on the previous learning 4. Getting reconnected with faculty 5. Strategic Plan priorities, goals of the department, and planning for the semester were discussed. 6. Fall 2014 Schedule was discussed with the following possibilities for teaching loads: a. 712 (2) – Cindy (1), (Greg Ammon ???) b. 715 (2) – Ashleigh, Jeff c. 716 - Dave d. 718 (2) – Brenda, Jeff e. 722 (2) - Anene f. 728 (2) – Cindy (1: afternoon), (Roger Kline???) g. 729 – Scott? h. 732 – Don i. 734 - Dave j. 738 – Pam k. 743 – Jennifer l. 751 (2) – Don, Jeff m. 793 (4) i. Brenda, Jeff, Julie, Katie Keller n. 795 (5) i. Cindy, Dave, Don, Denny, Anene 7. Work Tasks/Assignments due by January 30th a. Assignment #1 given to faculty: i. Faculty were asked to develop a list of priorities (1 to 10 list) for this coming spring 2014. Come up with a list for both work priorities and departmental priorities and bring these lists back to the next faculty meeting. b. Assignment #2 given to faculty: i. Take a look at last CACREP report on the T-drive to get a sense of structure and sections ii. Look at 2009 Standards and these are the standards we will be using to fill in the previous template of the last CACREP report c. Assignment #3 given to faculty: i. Look at core courses and assessments that we use in those courses that we believe are essential to student learning and our documentation of that learning that is connected to CACREP standards. If you could only do only two assessments what would be the most two meaningful or relevant assessments? 1. 718 – Principles 2. 722 – Theories 3. 715 – Research 4. 721 – Group 5. 736 – Lifespan 6. 741 – Social & Cultural 7. 751 – Professional Practices 8. 720 – Career 9. 728 – Clinical Studies 10. 719 – Appraisals 8. Visiting scholar was discussed for fall 2014 and the consensus was that this would not be a good time for the department to host a visiting scholar 9. Internship placements were briefly discussed and if there were any concerns about placements a. We need to come up with ideas for sites in Waukesha – Cindy to call Joe Mushka and inquire if he might have ideas 10. Afternoon classes for fall 2014 will start at 1:00 and for evening classes Brenda will be seeking an exception for Katie. 11. A student request was discussed and faculty approved this request 12. The wheelchair basketball game was discussed and Brenda will check with Dan at Roseman to see if Wednesday afternoons the gym is open and then the date for the wheelchair basketball tournament will be discussed further with the reunion committee 13.
