The Moscow Festival Ballet will perform Swan Lake at Young Auditorium on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. The auditorium is located at 930 West Main Street in Whitewater (on the UWWhitewater campus). Tickets for this performance are as low as $24.50. Swan Lake is arguably one of the most famous of Tchaikovsky’s ballets. The musical dance tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer. Graceful and dramatic dancing and music make for a memorable artistic and dynamic performance. The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 when legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, Sergei Radchenko, sought to realize his vision of a company which would bring together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies in an independent new company within the framework of Russian classic ballet. Leading dancers from across Russia have -moreforged under Radchenko’s direction to comprise their exciting new company, staging several new productions. Since its inception, the Moscow Festival Ballet has completed two tours of Europe and the United Kingdom, with extraordinary receptions in Italy, France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. The company has also performed with great success in Turkey at the Istanbul Festival and in Greece at the Athens Festival, and recently completed a two-month tour of Japan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. Under the direction of Radchenko, the Moscow Festival Ballet continues to expand its repertoire. This performance is brought to our venue in part by the Young Auditorium Cultural Affairs Committee (CAC). The CAC is a UW-Whitewater student and community member committee dedicated to assisting in the selection of cultural, diverse, educational and entertaining events at Young Auditorium. The committee provides opportunities for members to influence a large portion of the programming at Young Auditorium, and for students to gain educational experiences in arts administration.
