Dear Editor,
Many people think that war is just playing with weapons and then the soldiers go back
home. In my short period in this world, I have experienced many problems
which were caused by war. I lived a terrible life in a refugee camp for ten years because
of the war in Somalia. I didn't want to leave my beloved country, but the war made me
leave! In the camp, the number of women and children who have suffered from the war is
much greater than the men, the ones who brought the war.
I will never support anyone who wants to go to war. For example, the hatred between
President Bush and Saddam Hussein will affect the whole world. The important reason
why I am writing this letter is because if the Americans attack Iraq, the innocent civilians
are the ones who are going to suffer. On the other hand, the innocent soldiers from
America who have left their wives, children and parents behind are also going to suffer.
Mr. Bush and Mr. Hussein are not going to lose anyone. Their children are going to be in
a safe place. Why do they want to kill other people's children?
The only way to stop this war which will affect both sides is to listen to each other. That's
the first thing we need to do. Secondly, the UN are the ones who are supposed to take
action against Iraq, not America. Why don't they give the UN enough time to find a
solution? America is one of the most developed countries in the world. It should be the
first country to bring peace, not the first to go to war! Instead of using its money for war,
why doesn’t the US help the parts of the world that are in need like Africa and Asia. Even
here at home, people still need this money. Some of them are jobless; they don't have
decent places to live. Our children need a good education; why don't we develop the
schools? We want to bring up our children in a better world.
Sincerely yours,
Faiza Mohamed, MCC Student
