College of Education Criminal Justice and Human Services 2007 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Summary of Results The NSSE includes five Benchmarks of Effective Educational Practice: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Level of Academic Challenge (LAC) Active and Collaborative Learning (ACL) Student-Faculty Interaction (SFI) Enriching Educational Experiences (EEE) Supportive Campus Environment (SCE) The purpose of this summary is to highlight the findings that are indicated as statistically significant. Particular care must be taken when interpreting the NSSE results. Sample size must be taken into account as well as context. Also, statistical significance does not guarantee the result is substantive or important. Also, where appropriate, the General Education Core learning outcomes and Integrated Core Learning areas are matched with each NSSE question. The goal of this comparison is to track progress of learning outcomes for continuous improvement of our programs. The CECH NSSE reports can be viewed on the UC Institutional Research website. It is sorted by effect size (high to low), which shows where the college is scoring above or below the university mean score. A summary of college strengths and areas that may need attention follow: College Strengths Diversity perspective Critical thinking Oral communication Written communication Community involvement Interaction with faculty and staff Potential Areas to Address Written reports: Seniors reported less written assignments of 20 pages or more compared to the university average
