September 2015 Welcome Welcome to the September issue of Inside St John’s, bringing you the latest news and developments from the site. Staff Flu Vaccinations The seasonal flu vaccination campaign will launch at the start of October. As part of the campaign we are looking for volunteers to assist in giving staff their free, seasonal flu jab at staff flu clinics across NHS Lothian. As a responsible workforce it is important that as many staff as possible are protected, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of staff and patients. A vaccination is the best way to help protect against this potentially serious but preventable disease. The more volunteers we have, the more we will be able to provide accessible clinics on site including in ward areas for staff. We need your help again this year and any staff member who can help should please contact Patricia.McIntosh@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk or Andrew.McArthur@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk Further information and details of flu clinics can be found here. Clinical Change Forum The next event in the series of Clinical Change Forum meetings will take place on Wednesday 30 September 2015. More details and videos from the last meeting are available on the intranet. Home Electronics Scheme The home electronic salary sacrifice scheme will launch on Monday 28 September 2015. The scheme, in partnership with Currys PC World has been designed to offer staff access to a range of home electronic equipment such as tablets, computers, cameras, televisions and a range of white goods including dishwashers, fridge freezers and washing machines. A leaflet providing more information will be distributed with September payslips. Further information on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the intranet or at www.nhshomeelectronics.co.uk Trakcare Paper Lite Programme Clerking The implementation group has agreed that electronic clerking and inpatient progress notes will go live in the following wards on Monday 5 October: Stroke Unit, 8, 9, 14, 21, MAU/PAA, 25, Tippethill and St Michaels. A UNISON advice /resource centre opened at St John’s on 17 September in the hospital coffee room. When you log into one of these devices an option called ‘clinical workstation’ is available. This can be used when you just want to work with clinical applications and don’t need to use the full functionality available via the standard desktop. The main functions which aren’t available are: - - - This is an advice outlet for existing and new members, where staff can pop in at their leisure and speak to a steward on matters concerning them. This outlet will be manned Monday to Friday from 6.30am until 5.00pm. Within email – previously used names will not be recognised (these will need to be selected from the global address book) and email signatures Previously selected network printers used for printing, however, Trak printing is fully available Any other personalised settings – e.g. shortcuts on your desktop and internet favourites. This option has been made available to all staff on the SJH consultants and SJH anaesthetists email lists in the first instance. If this goes well, it will be made more widely available to other clinical staff. If you wish to use the standard desktop with full functionality then you should continue to select the ‘production’ desktop as usual – you can swap between these desktops during the day as required. This is your site newsletter and we want to hear from you about what’s going on in your service. Please send stories to lothian.communications@nhs.net
