TOPICS FOR LAB PRACTICAL EXAM I - Biology 1407 Fall 2015 Central Campus You will be tested using several stations, with 3 - 6 questions per station, for a few minutes per station. No microscopes will be used. In order to assure that each student sees the same thing, representative pictures of organisms and cell types will be provided. These may be specimens or pictures that are either well drawn or high quality prints - you should have no trouble recognizing the subject matter. Additionally, where I deem appropriate, further explanations will be provided in the test questions themselves. YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO: 1. Understand the Hardy-Weinberg allelic and/or genotypic equations and what each term in each equation means and the five conditions that must be met for a population to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (non-evolving) 2. Be able to recognize and name all prokaryotic shapes and arrangements covered in your lab manual. Why did we stain our cells in lab? 3. Be able to identify by scientific name any indicated part or structure, of any organism or tissue or covered in Lab Exercises 2 through 4, when prompted by a lab question. There were three single celled eukaryotes (protists) we looked at recognize them by scientific name and their structures as requested in Exercise 3 be familiar with their modes of nutrition and movement. 4. Be familiar with the morphology of flowers, roots, stems and leaves. Distinguish between Monocot and Dicots of each tissue type. Recognize the major groups of plants bryophytes, seedless-vascular, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms and which stage is dominant (Gametophyte/Sporophyte) and if a stage is haploid or diploid. Also be familiar with lab safety rules from the lab manual.
