Minutes of the College Council Meeting June 18, 2007
Present: Ms. Amezcua, Dr. Arce, Mr. Brown, Dr. Dever, Mr. Donnell, Dr. Fallo, Mr.
Marcoux, Dr. Marsee, Mr. Middleton, Mr. Miller, Dr. Nishime, Ms. Smith, Dr. Spor, and
Ms. Pickens.
1. Board Agenda
a. Our new student trustee, Roxanna Seyedin, will take the oath of office.
b. Human Resources item number 10 on page 41 is being pulled. There are two
additional typographical changes to page 41.
c. The purchase order for “MySpace” is for advertisement – 3000 students have
come here from their site since we started advertising there.
d. As of today’s date enrollment is up 2.4% for summer.
e. Student and Community Advancement – El Camino College Strategic Plan on
pages 17 and 18 – replace the previous Strategic Goals. These came out of the
Planning Summit. We are going to have to change the Board policy.
f. President/Board of Trustees – page 99 – Judy Gibson is the El Camino College
Foundation representative. This position was not advertised as it can only be
filled by a Foundation Board member.
g. Committee of the Whole – page 101 – this is a request by Trustee Combs for
discussion of Board of Trustees minutes and location.
h. Human Resources – pages 58-61 – Special Service Professionals – there was a
request for specific job requirements listing for these positions. Most of these are
from Student & Community Advancement and are paid from grants – more detail
will be provided.
i. Tentative Budget 2007-2008 – in the future an e-mail will be sent out with a link
to the budget. There was a concern that the reserve has been increased to 9% and that monies should be spent on programs. The state starts looking at colleges
that get below 7% and put colleges on watch list when they get below 5%. Some
districts consistently have above 10% reserves. We are very concerned about
FTES which is a major issue.
2. Dr. Nishime reports that each sub-committee of the Enrollment Management Committee
has been requested to come up with an enrollment management plan by mid July. A
report of Enrollment Management measures will be provided to College Council.
