It was suggested that an orientation on how to self register should be prepared. Technical funds should be used to replace some of the kiosks and maybe purchase new ones. The use of kiosks could be expanded to dispense parking permits, etc. The college will get a third line (to be paid for by the Chancellor’s Office) to expand band width. The Chancellor’s Office will allocate $100,000 plus to each college for computer support. The cost of computer support per computer is estimated at $3,500. The concept of an 800 number for access to a modem pool needs to be revisited. In terms of having computers available and working, the college is within or exceeds the guidelines of the Chancellor’s Office; however, we fall short in the number of staff members available for support. Funds will also be allocated for implementation of Technology Plan 2. They will be doing a presentation on Flex day and will do a training program for Financial Aid. An outside consultant may be needed in Financial Aid. Their problems are operational (not technical) issues. Problems with the Technology Plan Update were discussed. ITS has spent 150 hours reviewing the update and is recommending that it should not be accepted until they include facilities and training. It was noted that the president originally asked Ray Roney to do the update; however, he turned the task over to faculty (thereby relinquishing administrative control). They have not taken the update to the Technology Committee, the MIS Advisory Committee or the Management Forum. Vic will look into this. Joyce Branch: They had 46 (of 48) phone lines in use yesterday, and the system handled it very well. Datatel will be down this Friday for semester processing. Janet Clarke: They have selected two new employees. The Accounts Payable section is now complete. Two new Datatel training sessions will be offered. P & A assigned Bob Palmer to replace Joe Herman. CCT is refurbishing the Café for their program. Donna Manno: ACCCA will cover the registration fee for the conference in February. Encourage everyone to attend the January 16 Flex Day general session and other activities. The next New Staff Orientation will be February 7. There was discussion about the problems caused by the number of ITS people and the amount of their time needed for this every month. It was suggested that ITS could do their own presentation quarterly for anyone interested and make it required for new employees. The orientations will be reevaluated after the February session. Marcy Wade: AFT negotiations continue. A mediation session is scheduled for this Friday. Neither side had enough votes in the recent CSEA/CCE election; therefore, the election will be redone. Marcy and Allene will go downtown on February 14 to get the results. Regarding recent notices sent from CalPERS, Human Resources will be coordinating with American Fidelity to get another opening for Section 125. Without much notice, PERS announced that costs are doubling for PERSCare and PERS Choice. There will be open enrollment until the end of January if people want to change programs. Community College Job Fairs: January 27 in Los Angeles and February 3 in San Francisco. Allene Quarles: The February 13 Liebert & Cassidy workshop will be held in the Alondra Room. They are sending letters notifying employees of the February 28 deadline for classification review requests. Rocky Bonura: They are working on emergency preparedness. The list of building captains should be posted and communicated in each building. There is no way to use the carillon for emergency notification. Janice Ely and Allene Quarles will be the building captains for the Administration building. Mike D’Amico: Feedback on the annual report was requested. They will be announcing an opening for a dispatcher. Pam Fees: Everything is up to date in the Cashier area. They are using temporary parking permits for people using the drop box to pay their fees. Two Accounting Technician II positions are opening. The Audit Report is complete. There were some findings this year; however, they also acknowledged that findings from last year have been resolved or worked on. ECC will host a CASBO workshop re: facilities tomorrow in the Stadium Room. ECC people can attend for free. The joint planning meeting of the BDC and DPC has been rescheduled to February 1. Bob Gann: Contractors are replacing the north portion of the bleachers in the south gym. Walkway coating repairs were done during holidays. A dance floor was installed in PE 233. Custodians did detail cleaning in rest rooms, etc. during the break. The annual fire inspection will take place today. There will be a lighting walk tomorrow. Some lights may be on during the day for this. Work on the convenience stores is progressing. Janice Ely: They are working on a Peoplesoft implementation which will have a major impact on the college. It may be time for the college to start printing its own checks. Vic will participate in a meeting with Betty Ng to look into this. The meeting will be arranged by Pam or Janice. Meeting adjourned 9:55 a.m. staf19
