2. Workers’ Compensation: Valerie Wagner reported that there were two injuries for the month
of December 2013, which resulted in a total of 6 days away from work for one of the injuries.
3. Office of Safety and Health: Valerie Wagner reported that there are Proper Hazardous
Material/Waste Training sessions scheduled for February 18, 20, 25 and March 7. Pre-Inspections
for Hazardous Wastes and Materials will also be conducted by our Loss Control Consultant, Dave
Raymond for February for the Natural Sciences and Fine Arts Departments and on February 20 for
Facilities and Industry and Technology Departments. Both the training sessions and the PreInspections are designed to make sure that the District is prepared for the Hazardous Material
/Wastes Inventory Inspector from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Stan Uyehara who will
be conducting his inspection on Thursday, February 27.
4. Safety-related Work Order Report: Robert Brobst reported the following concerning work order
numbers: 54964 – Wooden benches located outside of the Natural Sciences patio area are being
restrained and weather proofed. We have completed 3 of the 12 benches in the patio area of
Natural Sciences. 55131 – Carpet bubbling in room, Student Services Center Building. The carpeting
has not been replaced and is part of the remodel for the Financial Aid Office that William Garcia
submitted on a 519 form and is still going through the process. 55361 – The loose and buckling tile
in the Chemistry Department has been replaced and the work order is now complete. 55644 – To
install netting over the roof access of the MBA Building to prevent bird nesting. The company is
coming out tomorrow to install the netting on the roof. 58214 – Adjust the timer for the lighting
located in stairwells of the Humanities Building. We are waiting for a Purchase Order for Clima-Tech
and as soon as the Purchase Order is process we will have Clima-Tech will come out and program
the timer. 58476 – Two large exterior lights on roof of the Construction Technology yard area are
not working. The exterior lights have been replaced and the work order is now complete. 58836 –
Request to have Awning installed over each of the Cashier Windows located at the Bookstore
Building. The sunlight hits the metal trays at the casher windows causing the sunlight to reflect
back into the eyes of the cashiers. Having awning installed is not an option due to the fact that the

covers would have to go out too far and because of regulations from the State Architect. The
easiest way to resolve this problem would be to treat the metal trays by applying a vinyl coating to
dull the glare. 59090- Emergency Lighting in Student Services, room 218A are not working. Our
Electricians tested the lighting and the lights are now working properly. 59159 – Blue Fluid dripping
from air conditioning unit in Life Sciences has been repaired.
5. Old Business:
Natural Sciences – Christie Killduff reported that she and Jean Shankweiler came up with a
solution to the problem concerning Velcro Straps for the electrical outlets at each of the
Student’s desks. We rearranged the classrooms desks in both LS-109 and LS-113 and have the
students face each other and now each outlet is on top of the desks and the electrical cords are
under the desks. I have submitted a work order for Facilities to secure the Velcro straps under
the desks. Ernesto Patricio, the electrician met with me today with regard to the electrical cords
and told me that he would have to speak with his supervisor in order to find out which
department in facilities would be responsible with securing both the Velcro straps and the
electrical cords. Robert Brobst stated that there are some things that will need to be done in
order for this problem to be resolved. Fundamentally there are too many students occupying
the classrooms based on the square footage. The classrooms will need to be converted back to
their original design and the Natural Sciences Department will have to find another room to
conduct lectures since you can only have 25 students occupying these classrooms at one time.
Julienne Gard reported that the still are no rubber mats on the west-side just outside the
entrance door of the upper most level of the Natural Science Building.
Industry & Technology – Robert Brobst reported that he met with Stephanie Rodriguez, Jack
Selph and Daniel Shrader with regard to the Indoor Air Quality in Construction Technology. The
Dust Collecting System is now working properly and the area has been thoroughly cleaned. The
problem we still have is with the air filtration system which is out of date. You cannot have an
air filtration system 10 feet from the floor. Air Filtration systems should be at least 18 feet
above the floor in order to safely work with cutting wood. I presented this information to
Stephanie Rodriguez, Daniel Shrader and Jack Selph and they will be working through the
Program Review Process in order to receive funds to correct the Air Filtration Systems.
Facilities – Robert Brobst reported that the contractor did in fact replace the yellow gas valve
cover on the campus roadway.

Warehouse – Carl Turano reported that we need to have the State Bed Truck replaced and the
Electrical Van which has no radio or back windows. Neither vehicle is safe to drive.
Art Department – Adrian Amjadi reported that my department has experienced a chronic
problem with both classroom doors being left unlocked and lights being left on overnight.
Robert Brobst recommended that a key audit be conducted as to you actually should have keys
to the building and who should not at present time.
We are still experiencing problems with Domestic Linen on our rag service. We are only on for
32-weeks out of the year and we are being charged for 50-weeks. The price has jumped
astronomically from $25 per week to $90 per week and can no longer afford the cost for the
service. The cost to pay for the entire service, costs more than the amount we actually have in
our budget. I am going to discuss with Rocky Bonura about dropping the service since it is no
longer affordable for our department.
