“Fire and Ice”
by Robert Frost
____________________________________________
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

You will create your very own Poetry Book. Your book will include a variety of poetry
by different authors (including you!) and original illustrations.
Choose poems based on a general theme- one topic or idea found throughout.
Your book will include at least the following:
A Table of Contents
An Overall Theme
5 Original Poems and 3 poems by published authors
5 Images **which you illustrate! **
5 Poetic Devices- choose 5 from the following 10 below to define and identify where they
are in your poem in footnotes at the bottom of the page.
simile

personification imagery
onomatopoeia alliteration
end rhyme

This will be counted as a major daily grade, so do your best. Your grade will be based on
your inclusion of the 8 poems, 5 pictures, and 5 poetic devices mentioned above, and
general appearance and creativity.
Have fun and don’t be afraid to be yourself! Poetry should reflect on you. Poetry reveals
and allows us to reveal our inner selves. So create a theme that does just that!
Include this rubric with your book to use as a work checklist and for your grade breakdown
after submittal.
