Planning
All departments should be starting to work on the creation of their 2012 – 2013 program plan. Most
departments will “roll-over” their current year (2011- 2012) plan to use as a starting point in the
creation of the plan for the next fiscal year. Your manager is the plan leader and will involve staff in this
process. Speak with your manager if you are not involved in the process but would like to know more
about it.
Budget
California is not bringing in as much revenue (taxes) as the Legislature had projected for this fiscal year,
which may result in funding cuts to community colleges. The Chancellor’s Office has sent out a
document indicating that El Camino College would see a reduction in funding for this year of about $1.8
million. Vice President Higdon mentioned at the most recent Planning and Budgeting Committee
meeting that the number could actually be higher, but she also cautioned that many legislators are up
for re-election next year and they would not like to be known for cutting funding to education, so they
might come up with an alternate solution that does not cut education.

Fall high school classes are ongoing. There are 8 total classes being offered, 3 of which are contract
classes. The Spring 2012 classes are still being considered.
Outreach will place a high priority on marketing two ideas when talking to prospective students:
1. Ensure the understanding that math-test preparation is a critical component to the
matriculation process. Start promoting the “Mymathtest” link with prospective students.
2. Promote and announce that registration priority will be given to the residents and graduates
in the district. This announcement was well received Wednesday night Sept. 21 at a Parent
Night presentation at Torrance High School.
Requests to Institutional Research regarding Outreach metrics are ongoing – 71.7% of the students
who tested this past spring at their high schools registered for classes in the Summer or Fall 2011
(310 of 432). This percentage is consistent with numbers from 2010 (73.1%) and 2009 (69.4%).
There are 9,939 students currently in our Prospective Student Database. Contact Robin Dreizler if
your program wishes use this database for program recruitment.
Our high school contact listserv includes nearly 300 high school counselors and administrators. If
you would like information regarding how to market your program or services by accessing this
listserv, please contact Robin Dreizler or Julieta Ortiz.
Ambassador Training October 14th, this month’s theme is CTE and Ambassadors will also get tested
on their ECC knowledge by playing a round of ECC Jeopardy.
For the month of October, Ambassadors will provide at least 50 hours of outreach to the
community.

These workshops are for students who have completed less than 67% of their attempted units
and/or have a G.P.A. below 2.0. Students who have 90+ units do not qualify for the workshop. The
first session took place on Thursday, October 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Emails were sent to
students to invite them to attend; students were able to call the Financial Aid office to sign up for
the workshop. The workshop is a 3-series session. Students will be invited to attend the next 2

Employees are asked to view the short video and take the short quiz. There is a new fire
extinguisher in room SSVC215, located behind the receptionist desk. An extinguisher was mounted
by the door for room SSVC209. F.A. staff should know where the extinguishers are located.
