An email was sent to students as a reminder of the start date. CEC – two classes were cancelled: Keyboard and Nursing 155. B. CEC Update: B. Perez provided an update: Seven hiring committees: (1) Dean of Student Success will close in November; (2) faculty positions. Reviewed funding equipment needs. It is an ongoing process and will be completed by November. II. DISCUSSION/ACTION A. Outreach Plan: R. Dreizler met with high schools beginning in late August to discuss student success changes. Approximately 400 counselors/administrators received information. Testing is available at the high schools and ECC which includes assessment, education plan, and online orientation. 31 student ambassadors are assisting students in addition to student service technicians. 350-400 students have completed online testing on campus. The goal is 1,000 students. R. Dreizler will provide a list of high schools that were visited. B. Summer Unit Limitation: The summer unit limit was a split decision between Division Council and Counseling. The motion was to keep the unit limitation at eight units. This was not a final decision. The VPs did not agree with the decision and felt the limitation should be higher. C. Student Completion Pledge: The focus for the spring is the completion agenda. It is to raise awareness to students on completion through certificates, degrees, and transfers. It is a collaborative awareness among administrators, staff, and faculty toward student success. A sample pledge used by some schools was distributed. It was noted the College can develop its own pledge. C. Gold will share the pledge with the Academic Senate at a future meeting. 1 Discussion was held at the Management Forum to begin dialog and develop recommendations for student success among management. VPs Arce and Nishime will present the topic at the next Academic Senate meeting. D. Program Review: Program review will complete twenty reviews this semester. Updates on program review should be documented at department and division meetings. Ways to improve the program review format: template, document successes and areas of improvement, include student feedback on programs, surveys, and focus groups. E. SLO: The SLO website has been redesigned. Additional assessments on SLO, ILO, and PLO have been included. The website is more comprehensive and organized. PLOs – 97% have been completed. SLOs – deadline is 11/8. III. OTHER A. Announcements: 1. At the October board meeting, the Board of Trustees voted 3-1 to close the Child Development Center. It will remain open until 6/30/14. The Board was concerned about the many years of loss and the District subsidized $1.28 million. 2. It was noted some students have completed a high number of units at another college and transfer to ECC. What would be the benefit of these students to amass 100 units elsewhere and transfer to ECC? Students pursue same course of study and may exceed repeatability; therefore, they attend another college (ECC) to take same courses. Degree tally would give credit to where the student first attended. 3. The Principal’s Breakfast will be held 10/30/13. Information will be provided from the feedback the high schools requested, including the student success plan. 4. Accreditation Self-Evaluation – Draft 2 and 4 have been submitted. All drafts will be reviewed and edited. The goal is to have it posted on the ECC website for campus review by 11/30/13. 5. The full-time Nursing position closes 11/12/13. This position is a carryover from Fall. 2
