Senate Meeting Minutes
Thursday, October 5, 2006

I. Call to Order
 L. Ramirez called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m.
II. Roll Call

III. Approval of the Agenda
 The agenda was approved without objection.
IV. Approval of the Minutes
(4.1) Minutes of September 14, 2006
 The minutes were approved without objection.
V. Action Items
(5.1) Finance
 Popular Culture Conference – The motion was made by D. Nordel to refer this
item to the ASO Finance Committee. The motion was seconded by J. Peters.
Danielle Marquez distributed an information sheet. ASO is asked to sponsor ten
students at $50 per student to attend the conference. The conference will be held
November 9-11, 8:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The motion passed.
(5.2) Appointments
 D. Nordel made the motion to appoint Evan Ortega as Student Representative to
the Police Advisory Committee and the Parking & Safety Committee. The motion
was seconded by A. Bachmann. The motion passed.
 D. Nordel made the motion to appoint D. Nordel as Acting Chair of the Finance
Committee for a one month period. The motion was seconded by B. Matson. The
motion passed.

(5.3) Resolution # 2006-008
 D. Nordel made the motion to support the El Camino College Compton Center
ASB resolution # 2006-008. The motion was seconded by J. Peters. A copy of
Resolution # 2006-008 was distributed. It will be presented by the El Camino
College Compton Center ASB to the Student Senate for the California Community
Colleges asking for continued recognition as a member senate. The motion passed.
VI. Discussion Items
(6.1) Textbook Policy
 The Policy Committee will continue work on a Textbook Policy proposal started
by past ASO members.
VII. Reports
(7.1) Executive Cabinet
 D. Nordel: Copies of the new ASO Mission Statement and Goals were
distributed for review.
(7.2) Senators
 U. Ameen: A meeting will be held with the Dean of Natural Sciences Friday at
4:15.
 R. Seyedin: Attended the last Math Department Meeting. The Compton
Educational Center Math Department offers forty-four sections only up to the PreCalculus level. Math 40 will be divided into two sections. Math 10a and 10b will
be offered as one section.
 A. Bachmann: At the Senate Council meeting Tuesday senators were assigned
to ASO Committees. J. Galdamez and D. Marquez were assigned to the Website
Committee. All other senators were assigned to the Fundraising Committee.
 D. Marquez: Confirmation was received from Mary Jo Ford, John Smith and
Paul Thotta as speakers for the Rock the Vote Rally.
 J. Galdamez: Created two optional ASO flyer templates.
(7.3) Advisors
 J. Barba: Information packages for the CCCSAA Conference were distributed
to the student attendees. A meeting will be held next week for student attendees.
(7.4) Inter-Club Council
 U. Ameen: Four ICC members attended the ASO Leadership Conference on
September 30th. The Blood Mobile will continue today and tomorrow.
Homecoming is November 4. The ICC Children’s Holiday Party will be held
December 4. Members of ICC will be attending the CCCSAA Conference.

VIII. Public Comment
 Samuel Sanchez: Hotels on Century Boulevard are currently being boycotted by
the workers’ union due to the working conditions of hotel employees. Among the
boycotted hotels are the LAX Hilton where the CCCSAA Conference will be held

and the Marriot where the Popular Culture Conference will be held. Due to the
boycott S. Sanchez asks ASO not to attend or support these events.
 Carlos Jauregui: Asks ASO to respect the hotel employees by honoring the
boycott.
 Samuel Sanchez: Asks ASO to show leadership by honoring the boycott.
IX. Adjournment
 D. Nordel made the motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by
J. Peters. The motion passed.
 The meeting was adjourned at 1:45pm.
