Tampa 13 Vocabulary
1. pole: a long, cylindrical, often slender piece of wood, metal.
2. file: a folder, cabinet, or other container in which papers, letters, are arranged in convenient
order for storage or reference.
frame: a border or case for enclosing a picture, mirror, etc.
dare: to challenge or provoke (a person) into a demonstration of courage; defy.
sometime: indefinite or indeterminate point of time.
rhyme: identity in sound of some part, the end, of words or lines of verse.
gasoline: flammable liquid mixture obtained from petroleum, and used as fuel for internalcombustion engines.
8. outfit: a set of usually matching or harmonious garments and accessories worn together.
9. scout: a person sent out to obtain information.
10. wound: an injury, usually involving division of tissue or rupture of the membrane, due to
external violence.
11. bound: secured within a cover as a book, tied, under a legal or moral obligation.
12. fountain: a spring or source of water; the source or head of a stream.
13. group: a number of persons or things ranged or considered together as being related in
some way.
14. source: any thing or place from which something comes, arises, or is obtained.
15. weed: any undesirable or troublesome plant, one that grows profusely where it is not wanted.
16. deer: various hoofed ruminant mammals of the family Cervidae, having antlers chiefly by
the males.
17. freeze: to become hardened into ice or into a solid body; change from the liquid to the solid
state by loss of heat.
18. sleeve: the part of a garment that covers the arm, varying in form and length.
19. cheese: the curd of milk separated from the whey and prepared in many ways as a food.
20. squeeze: to press forcibly together; compress.
21. equivalent: equal in value, measure, force, effect, significance.
22. fault: a defect or imperfection.
23. haul: to cart or transport.
24. naughty: disobedient; mischievous.
25. raw: uncooked, as articles of food; painfully exposed, as flesh, by removal of the skin.
26. hawk: birds of prey having a short, hooked beak, broad wings, and curved talons, often seen
circling or swooping at low altitudes.
27. awful: extremely bad; unpleasant; ugly.
28. drawer: sliding horizontal compartment, as in a piece of furniture, that may be pulled out in
order to gain access to it.
