AP Biology Discussion Notes Wednesday 04/01/2015 Goals for the day • Be able to use a chi square analysis to analyze whether actual data is close to our predictions (within the probability that we expect) • Be able to predict the probability of an event (getting particular offspring or getting a particular gamete) Question of the day 4/01 • Cross a Jackrabbit heterozygous for antlers and brown fur with a jackrabbit who has no antlers and white fur. Write the genotype & possible gametes of each parent. Then give the Punnett square using only the number of boxes that the parents have DIFFERENT gametes. Antlers is DOMINANT_ to no antlers. Brown fur is DOMINANT __ to white. Question of the day 4/01 • Save yourself some time & energy! – You don’t have to make a 4x4 punnett square if 1 parent doesn’t have 4 different gametes. – Only use as many rows/columns as you have numbers of DIFFERENT gametes. Antlers is DOMINANT_ to no antlers. Brown fur is DOMINANT __ to white. Fly lab Assumptions: – Wild type (+) – Assume dominance – ordered flies are Purebred – Traits are Autosomal – Basic & Complete Dominance – All traits are Non-lethal – Mendel’s Laws are at work • Law of segregation • Law of independent assortment Fly Lab work order • Complete the Part 1 sheet, then bring up your completed Part 1 lab to get the experimental cross challenge. • Complete the Experimental cross questions • Study for quiz tomorrow
