12-01: A Resolution to Improve Vending Machine Accessibility 1 2 3 WHEREAS, Vending machines on the campus of Wright State University are not accessible to all persons; and WHEREAS, Department of Justice regulations require that at least one of each type of 4 vending machine in each building be reasonably accessible, with operable 5 parts no further than forty-five inches above the ground; and 6 WHEREAS, “Operable parts” of vending machines include coin intakes, bill feeds, card 7 swiping machines, change dispensary, shelf receptacles, and selection 8 mechanisms; and 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 WHEREAS, Accessibility includes readability of selection mechanisms for persons with blindness; and WHEREAS, Wright State University prides itself on its inclusion and accessibility to persons with disabilities; and WHEREAS, Students have, over several years, expressed to Student Government a need for accessible vending machines; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, By the Student Government of Wright State University here 16 assembled, that: Accessibility for vending machine card swiping 17 machines, shelf receptacles, and selection mechanisms should be 18 prioritized by the administration of Wright State University; and, be it 19 FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Student Government of Wright State University 20 here assembled, that: Progress on the implementation of such 21 accessibility programs should be communicated to the Director of 22 Disability Affairs and President of Student Government from the Office of 23 Disability Services on a semesterly basis.
