General Course Objectives: Introduces the repairing of damaged plastic and fiberglass panels and components. Explains the repairing of automotive interior and exterior plastic trim panels and components that have sustained collision damage. 6. Specific Course Competencies Upon completion of ABRP 41G the student should be able to: UNIT 1. A. B. Describe and demonstrate the required shop safety as pertaining to the proper use and safe handling of damaged plastic and fiberglass or SMC (sheet molded compounds) panels or components and the materials used for repair. Explain and demonstrate the personal safety and hygiene involved while handling the materials and chemicals used for plastics and SMC or fiberglass repair. UNIT 2. A. Describe and demonstrate procedures on how to identify and determine the many different fiberglass or SMC and plastic compounds, diagnose the damage, and type of repair to applied to the damaged panel. UNIT 3. A. B. Describe and demonstrate different methods to chemically repair a damaged fiberglass or SMC panel and a damaged plastic panel. Explain and demonstrate procedures to refinish the repaired fiberglass or SMC panel and the plastic panel to duplicate the factory appearance. UNIT 4. A. B. Describe and demonstrate the different welding processes and techniques for repairing plastic panels.
