People credited with this unit standard are able to: separate non-ferrous from ferrous materials; maintain continuity of separator operations; and pack non-ferrous materials. Classification Steel Manufacturing > Steel Manufacturing - Raw Materials Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definition Company documentation refers to the documented procedures, manufacturer’s manuals and selected reference texts for the equipment and process. 2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991. 3 This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Separate non-ferrous from ferrous materials. Evidence requirements 1.1 Materials are identified to enable recovery of specified metals in accordance with company documentation. Range 1.2 materials include but are not limited to – copper, brass, gunmetal, aluminium, stainless steel, cast steel, manganese, zinc, lead, ferrous metals. Separation rate meets company requirements. Range Competenz SSB Code 101571 company requirements include but are not limited to – belt speed or specified production rate for the machine. Evidence requirements 2.1 Separator is loaded to match shredder output rate and enables continuity of separator operation and achievement of separation rate in accordance with company documentation. 2.2 Separator requirements are communicated to the shredder operator to enable continuity of separator operation to be achieved. 2.3 Separator operation is monitored to enable plant utilisation requirements to be achieved. 2.4 Maintenance schedule for the separator is carried out in accordance with company documentation. Outcome 3 Pack non-ferrous materials. Evidence requirements 3.1 Contents of each load meet company and customer requirements for material type and weight. 3.2 Packaging and product labelling meet company, customer, transport, and statutory requirements. 3.3 Loads are ready for transport at times specified by the company.
