People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the function and operation of sports turf machinery and equipment; and operate, service, and store a range of sports turf machinery and equipment. Performance criteria 1.1 Horizontal and vertical mowing machinery is described in terms of its function and operation in the sports turf industry. Range 1.2 Turf conditioning and aeration equipment is described in terms of its function and operation in the sports turf industry. Range 1.3 at least five of – spikers, slicers, verti-drain, corers, vibramoles, mole ploughs, water injection, borers, drillers, subsoilers, gas injectors, sprayable soil conditioners. Seedbed cultivation equipment is described in terms of its function and operation in the sports turf industry. Range 1.4 machinery must include but is not limited to – reel, rotary, flail, cord trimmers, groomers, verticutters, dethatchers, groovers. at least five of – rotary hoes, power harrows, harrows, discs, ploughs, spring tyne cultivators, scarifiers, groovers. Spreaders, seeders and planters are described in terms of their function and operation in the sports turf industry. Range at least three of – drop spreaders, rotary spreaders, seed broadcasters, seed drills, spriggers. 1.5 Turf tractors and utility vehicles are described in terms of their function and operation in the sports turf industry. 1.6 Surface preparation machinery and equipment is described in terms of their function and operation in the sports turf industry. Range 1.7 machinery and equipment must include but is not limited to – rollers, sweepers, line markers, turf cutters, water removers, covers. Surface performance measurement equipment is described in terms of its function and operation in the sports turf industry. Range at least three of – mowing equipment, turf conditioning and aerating equipment, seedbed cultivation equipment, spreaders and seeders, surface preparation machinery and equipment. Performance criteria 2.1 Pre-operation checks are carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Range 2.2 pre-operation checks include but are not limited to – lubrication, fuel, water, tyres, freedom from obstructions, wear. Sports turf machinery and equipment is operated in accordance with work supervisor’s instructions and enterprise standards. Element 3 Service and store a range of sports turf machinery and equipment. Performance criteria 3.1 Machinery and equipment is serviced and stored in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines and enterprise standards. Range at least three of – mowing equipment, turf conditioning and aerating equipment, seedbed cultivation equipment, spreaders and seeders, surface preparation machinery and equipment. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
