2 The New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) is a schedule to the Building Regulations
1992. It provides requirements for compliance with the Building Act 2004 when constructing a new building or altering an existing one. The Building Code sets out performance standards that building work must meet and covers aspects such as structural stability, fire safety, access, moisture control, durability, and services and facilities.

Element 1
Interpret plans and specifications for roofing.
Performance criteria
1.1 Interpretation includes determining dimensions and quantities of materials in accordance with plans and specifications.

Plans and specifications are interpreted correctly in accordance with the NZBC.
Parts of drawings and specifications where roofing information can be obtained are identified.
2.1
Range may include but is not limited to – elevations, plan views, sections, detail drawings, scale drawings, full size.
Element 2
Perform simple roofing calculations.
Performance criteria
Roofing areas are calculated correctly in accordance with plans and specifications.
2.2 Underlay quantity is calculated correctly in accordance with plans and specifications.
2.3 Accessory quantities are calculated correctly in accordance with plans and specifications.
Range may include but is not limited to – ridges, valleys, guttering, barges.
2.4 Waste factors are calculated in accordance with job specifications.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
