Definitions
Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the
company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements which may apply
across the company or to a specific site. Requirements are documented in the
company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work
programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents.
Contract specifications include plans, diagrams, and special technical conditions.
They do not include special administrative conditions.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Confirm requirements for adjusting the surface box.
Performance criteria
1.1
Site conditions are confirmed in accordance with company requirements.

Excavate and adjust the surface box and cover.
Performance criteria
2.1
The pavement surface surrounding the service cover is cut to meet contract
specifications.
2.2
The area around surface boxes and covers is excavated, trimmed and shaped,
and loose materials are removed in accordance with contract specifications.
Range
2.3
tools may include – pick, shovel, compressor, breaker, crowbar.
The surface box is placed in position, and the level of the surface box and cover
is adjusted to final position in accordance with contract specifications.
Element 3
Place and compact the backfill material.
Performance criteria
3.1
Specified backfill materials are hand placed in accordance with contract
specifications.

3.2
Specified backfill materials are compacted in layers to match adjacent surfaces,
in accordance with contract specifications.
Element 4
Clear the worksite on completion of work.
Performance criteria
4.1
Surplus and loose materials are cleared from the site in accordance with
company requirements.
4.2
Temporary traffic control measures are removed in accordance with company
requirements.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
